Botetourt/Thomas Dale scrimmage

I'm not sure but somebody posted on a Virginia Tech website that his son played for Thomas Dale. He wrote that Lord Botetourt was huge and that they were " tossing around Thomas Dale defensive players like they were dolls" . He was especially happy, being a Hokie fan, that Jesse Hansen was going to VT.

Obviously we are looking at it from the outside but they did beat Blacksburg last year 26-22 early in the year and they have several big guys back. I don't think they run the same offense as Louisa but run the ball at you and dare you to stop it.

The report I received from a friend whose son played at LB indicated the scrimmage was fairly even. A Thomas Dale receiver dropped a wide open sure td and LB had a td called back. The only score recorded was a dale dale td pass late in the scrimmage with the 2's on the field. LB's defense kept the Thomas Dale running game in check and LB ran the ball well, but struggled passing. For some reason LB's starting qb did not play.

My thoughts:

I know LB has Rice and Hanson, but they must have a sound supporting cast as well. The result doesnt shock me as Dale with its 7 d-1 recruits are basically stymied by an offense that does not take advantage of their athleticism and LB had the size to bang on them.

TD ran a spread offense for about 90% of their plays.

1st. Qtr:
LB scores on third play from scrimmage, 68 yards out, and it got called back because of an inadvertent whistle by a new referee. (It's pre-season for them too, so understandable).

2nd. Qtr:
LB drives to the TD 7 and throws an int on second and goal.
When LB gets the ball back, they complete a long pass play for a touchdown, but it was called back on a holding penalty.

3rd? Qtr:
All LB starters out of the game for the day, TD starting O-Line stays in with a mix of 1's and 2's elsewhere.
No scores in this quarter.

4th. Qtr.
TD receiver drops a pass that almost certainly would have been a touchdown.
With the TD 1st string O-Line still getting the reps at this point in the quarter, they score with 8 minutes to go.
The scrimmage ends with LB having driven the ball down to the TD 25.
