To be honest im not 100% sure, but i had caught wind last year that he had a 40" vertical. Not sure how accurate that was, but considering theres several videos ive seen of him having to duck his head slightly to keep from hitting it on the rim id say 40" is pretty close.

Edit: According to Coach Vermillion in the article they have in the Kingsport Times News this morning, he claims that hes only got a 47" vertical when they try to gauge him in practice but he swears it goes to 50" when it's gametime. Surely Coach got confused....47" vertical?!?!

McClung fires in 47 in Gate City win

One game into his senior season and Mac McClung continues to amaze.

Gate City's high-flying superstar poured in 47 points and threw down several highlight-reel slam dunks as the Blue Devils officially opened the 2017-18 season with a 96-43 Mountain 7 District boys basketball win over Lee High on Tuesday night.

Several of McClung's dunks had already gone viral a few hours following the completion of the game and Sports Illustrated had even put video of one of the gravity-defying jams on its Twitter account.

Georgetown University coach Patrick Ewing was in attendance. McClung signed with the Hoyas last month.

McClung had scored 52 points against Science Hill and 39 points against Virginia High in two preseason contests.

Bradley Dean and Zac Ervin added 20 points apiece for Gate City, which led 60-26 at halftime.

Jacob Stewart led Lee (2-3) with 15 points.

(brief from the Bristol Herald Courier)

There are some teams around the state who not score as many points as him. I will try to get up that way to watch him this season.

Hes a blast to watch....never seen anything like him at the high school level. If your coming to GC to catch a game youll need to get there a couple hours in advance in order to get in....or else youll be asked to watch it on a projector in the cafateria cause the gym will be closed off by the fire marshalls.

Sounds like Pittsylvania County schools. I hate when fans get turned away from a high school game.
I went to GC several times in late 90s to scout GC.

To me, what's just as impressive is his 'hang time' - seems like he's in the air forever when he goes up for his dunks.

There were plenty of seats last night at the GC game. Not sure if that will remain. But last night I came too early.

GC looked like they had a few guys that could really slam it down!
