Wise Central trounces Titans

(brief from the Bristol Herald Courier)

Isaiah McAmis poured in 25 points as Wise Central trounced the Twin Springs Titans, 77-14, in a non-district showdown Wednesday that was far from a titanic struggle.

Tyler Vanover (12 points) and Dalton Mullins (10 points, five assists) also scored in double figures, while Elijah Hayes pulled down nine rebounds.

This game, even though I don't know diddly squat about either team, does prove how the fortunes of any one team in any sport can change easily from one period of time to another, or maybe even from one season to another. Twin Springs made it to the Final Four in basketball at least once and maybe twice about 10-12 years ago, and now they are losing games like this????

Not a criticism just an observation to make the point that nobody is ever going to be on top or at the bottom all the time. These things go in cycles.

Went to the finals in 2005, won it all in 1993.

They played Riverheads in the semi-finals at VCU in 2004, and I remember their crowd being very vocal, considering how far they had to travel.

The big Red Army. Yes, their fan base was rabid. If you've never been to Nickelsville, then you'll honest to God wonder where in the hell they all could possibly come from. There is absolutely NOTHING there, and Twin Springs high school itself is on a back road in the middle of nowhere at least 5 miles off the main highway.

When they beat us (Haysi) for the Region D title in 1993, they had a fan simply known as "Bandanna Man". He'd sit front row of the bleachers and every time Twin Springs scored, he'd stand up and twirl his body around waving that bandanna. I am sure he has since passed on because he was up there in years then. But, man was he a hoot to watch. :)

I don't know if you guys are rivals or even anywhere close to each other, but I could give the same compliment to Hurley. Their fans in Richmond may not have been as numerous as the Twin Springs crowd, but they were enthusiastic.
