I made a day of it as many folks did, so here is my take on the four games:
PM over Surry: I only saw a little bit over two quarters but it looked kind of sloppy to me. Nice crowd from both schools. Kudos to Surry for coming back to make a game of it as they cut a 14 point third quarter lead down to five I think it was and made it a little interesting. Am I correct that PM is still very young and therefore might be back another year or two?
Lancaster over Eastside: By far the most competitive game of the day. Eastside's size bothered the Devils in the early going but once they realized that they were the quicker team, Lancaster used that to their advantage. I was very impressed with the athleticism of Eastside's two big guys as they were more than just tall. Wonder if Eastside was hurt by not coming out of the locker room in a timely fashion? They got NO warm-up and as a result did not score for the first 4 minutes of the third quarter. That might have been enough to give LCHS a jump start toward the win.
Central over Buffalo Gap: By far the least interesting game of the day. Very few fans for either team, at least compared to the other games. I wonder if Central fans stayed away just assuming they had it in the bag. First time I had seen Gap even though they are in my area, so I don't know if they played up to their usual standards or not. I think it just came down to experience and having been there before.
Gate City over Lee: Wow! Where do I begin...........First of all, biggest and loudest crowd I have ever seen in my many trips to the Siegel. Considering their distance, GC had an awesome crowd there and boy did they give the full house its money's worth! Lee has been the gold standard around here (Augusta County) for longer than any of us can remember but the Devils just totally outclassed them today. As incredible as McClung is, they are FAR from being a one-man team. Best team I have seen on the 2-A level in quite some time. However, having said all of that, I wonder as someone else has on here, if McClung will really be able to just step in to a starring role at Georgetown. After all, on the major college level, EVERYONE is a superior athlete. He will be interesting to follow.
