The Brunswick
High School athletic program has a history of excellence with
their sports programs. The football team has contended for the
Region championship the past few years and the basketball team has made
four straight state title game appearances. They have had
their share of great alumni's like former NBA star Bryant Stith, and
football player E.J Wilson who was recently drafted into the NFL. Also, Patrice
Potts a 3-time State Champion sprinter, is working to get to the 2012 Olympics.
However the Brunswick baseball program hasn't enjoyed the same type of success
lately as the other programs have but that could all change this week.

On Thursday, the Bulldogs will try to secure a
spot in the 2010 Region I playoffs with a win over Southside District foe
Nottoway. The teams ace, senior Josh Barmoy, will take the mound to not only to
get the win to earn Brunswick a playoff spot, but to set a milestone with his
200th career strikeout.

"I am sitting on 199 strikeouts right now,"
Barmoy said, "and I hope to get 200 on Thursday. If we win that game, it will be
the first time since 1995 that Brunswick makes it to the Regional's. To get
our team to the playoffs would just be a dream come true. This year the
Southside District gets three teams in Regional's and we have beat every team
(in the district) besides Powhatan and Nottoway."

After having a major setback with a car accident
which forced him to miss most of his sophomore year, Barmoy has put the Bulldog
team on his shoulders with some fine pitching. Sporting a 7-3 record, Barmoy has
a 2.47 ERA in 53 innings pitched with 85 K's. His career high for
strikeouts was against Franklin when he recorded 19. "The funny thing was I
picked two people off and one ball was hit back to me; so I got all 21
outs."

Barmoy has a long list of schools who are interested
including Chowan, Mount Olive, Emory and Heny, Averett, Ferrum, Christopher
Newport, Pfeiffer University, Belmont Abbey, Saint Aug (NC), Shaw, and Randolph
Macon.
