I heard that Buckingham's runningback Holman quit after a disagreement with the head coach. I hope that isn't true. The Knights are having a tough go at it, and this can't help. Any word on that BCKnights?

I hope this isnt true? I just texted BCknights this morning about his nephew and how the team holding up. Holman has a bright future. I hope he didnt quit.
Naw he didn't quit he was put off the team. Coach wasn't going to play him this Friday because he said he wanted to play younger guys who's gonna be there next year so he slammed his helmet down and was then told we don't need you. I talked to his mom and dad they met with the school board. Rahim was our most explosive player and he's a quite kid. None of our boys care to play anymore. The same day Coach Wallace said to the boys that Gill didn't do things right in Buckingham and that nearly set a bomb off. We may not have a team next year seriously if Coach Wallace is here. Its sad man.
BCKnights, man I really hate to hear this. I know the numbers were down and the Knights lost of lot from last year but it's been head scratching watching things play out this year. You really hate it for the kids as football there is something that they could always take pride in and enjoyed being part of the tradition. Every team is going to have up and down years but this seems to be a complete 180 turnaround from what they have had the past 8 or so season. I know from a personal level I was upset with the way the administration handled things with my dad at the end but it's been tough watching the boys struggle like they have. Would love to know what Wallace meant when he said that Gill didn't do things right in Buckingham. Nothing could be further from the truth. Looks like things will not get any easier this Friday night with Goochland. Hope the boys can keep their heads up and weather this storm.
This is upsetting, they need to cut him lose. I still dont see what they seen in the guy to have hired him. Well, I would hate for some of that talent to not play next year. "We would love to have them" (in my Richlands voice).
Coach Gill built Buckingham into such a good program. I hate to see Buckingham go through this situation. Goochland and Buckingham have had so many great and physical football games since Coach Fowler and Coach Gill have been with their respective teams. Coaching is such a big part of what creates a program that wins and is competitive year after year on and off the football field. Hopefully things get turned around for the Knights (just not this week)....
Man that's a shame it had to happen like that. I hope the school board looks into that one. Rajheem is a great kid with a lot of potential. I'm sure it's frustrating to be losing so much.
I dont think there is a way you could turn a program around like that in just one year unless its coaching. I feel bad for the players, there is so much football tradition in that school. Bucktown fans are living in some dark days right now.
There are teams playing year after year and may muster a win or two throughtout, but they continue to play. Why, in my oppinion, during those losing streak a good coach finds a way to keep his kids believing that they are good enough to compete week after week. But when a coach crushes your spirrit from the start, doom is sure to follow. I know the Knigkts have a strong football community and will return to success. Hope to chat with you BCKnight when we come town. I may be to help you through this struggle being that you proably dont remember a downturn like this. Got lots of experience. LOL!!!
I think you hit the nail on the head, it's coaching. Why in the world would you tell a young man the week of one of the top 2 toughest games of the year that you.....in so many words are going to scrap this season and start planning for next year. Those kids in Buckingham developed a tradition and culture of winning. They expected to win. It's crazy to see that the wheels have come off the bus so fast. Even though they were down in experience, they had a great JV the past few years, it was a team that was still capable of winning 6-7 games and knocking of the door of post season. At least that what the old man said. I know it's not the place on this forum but I'm dying to know where Coach Wallace was going with the comment on how Gill didn't do the right things. There is 40 seasons of teams that would have a major beef with that statement.
G-Dog watch how we look as a team tomorrow night. The players have quit on the game and I've never seen a Buckingham team quit. I talked to one of our assistant coaches that came from Richmond and he asked me how to get through with some of our kids that he knows I'm related to. I told him you to show them respect and have to show them that you care about them, but they don't feel that from the man in charge. I told him until that happens don't expect it back. Advocate when have you ever seen a kid blow up on a coach like our kid did week one against y'all. These kids were done the minute Seth walked.As far as how Wallace got the job, He went to school with a certain someone who did the hiring. KnightsFan1776 you were right when you said this guy was gonna ruin what we had here. It's sad when kids don't wanna play the game they love for the County they love because of one person.
The kids don't care what you know until they know that you care. That's one of Coach Gill's favorite quotes. I'd give anything in the world to see that man lead the Knights onto the field one more time. It's a shame to see this happen, and the administration should take full responsibility for it with pushing out most of the old staff. Like I've said before, I graduated a few years ago and the staff we had was great.
If this guy thinks Coach Gill wasn't doing things the right way, Bill Parcells could have preceeded him and it would have been wrong. Gill was a standup guy who did everything he could for kids. And not just in Buckingham -I have had first hand experience with that. On top of that he knew football and the community loved him as much as you could love a coach.

You're exactly right. Gill's voice alone motivated you. When he grabbed you by the inside of your shoulder pads and looked in the eye and said dammit I need you to get your in the game son (talking from deep down inside) you went out there tried your best to make a play if it cost you your life. Gill called you son or men or if he had trouble with your name he gave you one that stuck with you 20 years later. Coach Wallace is trying to hard to distance himself from what was built. We knew he wasn't Gill and would never be but we are still there every Friday night. It's to the point now that parents are trying to take action everyday. I still go to every game no matter where it's at no matter how hard it is to watch but it help the kids just seeing you there and know that you are taking the loses with them.

Really hate the situation with Raheem, being his Sr year. From what I remember of him from talking to pop he was a great kid. I remember at the Martinsville game last year, he pointed him out and said, "that's my running back next year". Friday nights are different now for sure. Would have never imagined the program being where it's at. I have to admit at the beginning of the year being some what jealous/bitter thinking I wish the new coach well but I hope he doesn't do too well because I don't want the people up there to forget who Coach Gill was. Just hate the sitatution is what it is now.
I never personally knew Coach Gill but I listened to his speech that someone shared on here a few months ago and I literally got chills. The passion and the love he had for his players and that community was so obvious. Anyone should feel honored to be able to follow in his footsteps. I know as a coach myself I surely would.

The JV Bulldog's moved to 5-0 on the season with a hard fought physical game with the score being 32 to 22. The Knight's seemed amped and eager to play for Coach Edwards tonight.....

I don't post a lot, usually just sit back and read, but we also need to keep in mind that everything is hearsay and second and third time being shared. I have been in education and coaching for a number of years and I know from experience that the stories and tales never match up exactly and that is from both the players and coaches viewpoint and what a player goes home and tells a parent is usually tilted in his favor.
If any kid quits because of a coach saying something derogatory, that is unfortunate and a shame and it should be looked into. I think it also needs to be kept in the back of the mind that Wallace is coming in a replacing someone who was very well respected in the community and in the conference and I have seen it time and time again where the first person in those shoes never fares very well. Coach wallace might be going about everything wrong, but he also came into a difficult and emotional situation. From what I have heard, none of the process from the time Coach Gill stepped down was handled properly, but then some of the blame and anger need to be directed at those who handled that process.
I will say that I coached against Coach Gill many times and his teams were always some of the most talented, hard hitting, and well prepared I have ever had to prepare for myself. Coach Edwards is the glue stick right for both varsity and JV. He told me at the end of last year he wasn't coming back but over the summer left work everyday to come open the school so the kids could lift along with Seth. He and I talked in the grocery store back in June and he said I think I gotta come back because right now I'm all they got. See all these kids Coach Edwards have known since they were babies and he's know in just about every household, very good man, when he speak they listen, varsity or jv. Look at our jv it's not very many on the team but they are in every game to the last minute because they will not stop playing for their coach.
You're right but prior to Coach Gill, Coach Morris was the Varsity coach since I was a kid until my senior year. We grew up ready to play for Coach Morris even though we were a mediocre program. After an 0-10 season in 95, Gill was brought in to replace Morris. I was on his very 1st team in 96 and from day 1 we knew we were in good hands. He told us day 1 we were his family now and whatever happens that season we would be proud of what we did. We won our 1st game and finished 3-7 but we were in every game we played and we didn't have alot of talent. We played hard because we played for each other and Gill would say every possession play with pride. What he said to you he said it with emotion so you knew it was genuine and that's what we are lacking now. These kids don't believe in the coaching staff. We lost talent yes, but we have enough talent to not be 1-5 and struggling just to keep a team.

What is not being mentioned in this blog is (star player repeatedly miss or purposely late to practice multiple times. Also was getting in trouble in class , was referred to the principal office..Also player also was failing multiple classes which made him in eligible to play for the next game for Buckingham) (Which was little disturbing because I found out that Buckingham football team do study hall after school everyday with an actually tutor on staff)I go to Buckingham practice everyday I feel very down because the kid is very talented and is definitely a college player..but even Terrell Owen got dismissed from the team. ( With any player in the world your talent can get you places but you attitude can keep you from there as well.)The final straw was when he was asked to get on the scouting in practice and he said " No! I'm not playing I'm not practicing, this is my team not yours" I think the whole practice was shock and had to lead to dismissal...I think the coach can only do what's best for future of the team..I drive my truck out to Buckingham practice everyday and watch, I personally never heard the new coaches disrespect Coach Gill legacy in any way... Gill was there for 20 years.. it's just time for the community and players to understand "YES SORRY IT WILL BE DIFFERENT NOW" its call CHANGE.. Nothing stay the same..Also I do feel no player should be treated any better than anyone else on the team and a coach should have to tolerate multiple negativity or making kids played were not eligible to play to be successful. Isn't there an assistant Coach that goes by this name???? I didn't know he was a parent of a player too?!?! I hope you have permission to be releasing a childs academic information on social media.
For starters, yes this team lost 18 players, but honestly how long can you use that as an excuse? Do you think in 20 years of coaching, Gill never lost multiple players at one time? Side note, he was still successful.
It's nice the coach decided to go to the hospital with the injured players. What coach wouldn't do that? I assume that would be expected from any coach of any sport.

Permission for a Statement?? Sorry but it's my 1st amendment to speak my mind just as the false claims being put on a coach you may not know anything about. Never posted any academic grades..Don't need to do that. Only them coaches and that player understand this situation. But with multiple studies halls that was great coaching move. If you looking to tear down a coach make sure they know the truth next time. Second this is they first season, but find out coach Gill record his first year (you will see new changes make new changes )Second if my daughter sick at home I'm sorry she become my priority.great guy for doing that. Gill lost nearly that many seniors with the class of 2013, if not more, and went to the state semis the next year.
If you look at TMSykes' other posts they're concerned with Petersburg in the past and teams that they play. Concerned parent, didn't realize we had anyone move from Petersburg, Coach. I hope you don't work for the school system with the grammar you use, then our kids are screwed in the classroom too.

Knightfan1776 I texted Advocate and told him this is a coach posting this. I walk the track almost everyday I don't see any parents out there watching practice but myself. Look in 2010 we lost 19 seniors off a 10-1 team and finished 10-2. Gill's 1st year we went 3-7 coming off an 0-10 season. It's no excuse for how bad the Knights have played and looked this year. Rahim has been on Varsity seen a freshman so it's funny how he becomes such a problem his senior year. If that's a parent watching from a far then it's mighty funny he focused so much on Rahim from 8:25 am until 7:30 pm. Just saying.
I'm with you BCKnights. If you're gonna lie at least try to do a good job of it. Also, how professional is it of a coach to put out there that a kid was having academic troubles? Tells me all that I need to know about this staff and the unprofessional level they're okay with operating at, including bashing Coach Gill just as Sykes did on an online forum. What a joke.
This is what we dealing with. Wait until the players see this. Kids look at this site all the time. Talk about the kid that suffered a concussion in practice and has to be taught how to use his mind again and can't go to school few serveral months. That kid's mom just said tonight that my nephew Tyrese is the only person that calls and check on her son (NONE OF THE COACHES). Wow thanks for letting the entire state know why we are 1-6.
