Bulldogs out slug Lakeland at Harbor Park

Harbor Park, home of the Norfolk Tides AAA professional baseball team hosted a Southeastern District matchup between Suffolk schools Lakeland and Kings Fork. In a high scoring affair, the Bulldogs from kings Fork outslugged the Lakeland Cavaliers 15-7 to earn their second win in the past three games.

The Bulldogs pounded out 13 hits and scored a run in every inning except the fifth. Noah Johnson, who is headed to Norfolk State, led the hit parade going 5 for 5 with two RBI's and two stolen bases. Connor McNamara had three hits and Cedric Henry reached base four times including crushing a deep ball off the picnic area fence for a triple. It was Henry's first hit of the year.

Kings Fork trailed 7-4 heading into the top of the third off a 2-run single by Jeremy Godwin and a single by Johnson. Cody Holland had the game-winning RBI on a sacrifice fly that made the score 8-7 in the fourth inning. Henry's triple plated a run and extended the lead to 9-7. The Bulldogs put the game away with a 5-run seventh including a 2-run double from Holland.

Marcus Welch overcame four errors in the first two innings by his infielders to end the game with five shutout innings. Welch did not allow a hit after the second inning and the Cavaliers only had one baserunner who reached on an error. Welch struckout four and allowed only one walk.

Lakeland used three consecutive singles in the first inning to take a 3-1 lead after one. Shane McCaw singled in two runs and Blake Harris added an RBI single. McCaw singled home a run in a 4-run second which included three kings Fork errors. Mccaw finished with two hits and three RBI.
