Stuarts Draft VA
I get on here and read all these threads and post on multiple pages, and I think everyone would agree that I am respectful with everything. But here lately when reading I get really irritated. I just cannot understand for the life of me why we have posters on here belittling others because of their picks or predictions of a game. I will use the 2 games remaining as an example. I have seen a lot of people picking Richlands to win against Stuarts Draft this weekend, but they have all been classy posts. These seem like Richlands fans as well, so what do you expect for them to pick against their team? Of course not. I don't find that disrespectful at all. They want and hope and believe their team to win. Thats how fans should feel. I have never given a score even in pick em that I can remember for a Stuarts Draft game, I also always say my team will win. I am being a fan, and believing in my boys no matter what.

But the other game, if a Goochland fan says they believe they will win, they get ridiculed for it and told how wrong they are. So my question is can we not just let fans be proud of their team without having disrespectful comments right after. This is an opinion board, and everyone's opinion should be accepted, not disrespected. Disrespect and talking bad about the other person or team shouldn't happen just because they have a different opinion than you, or just because they believe in their team

1). Stop worrying about everyone's feelings.
2). Do people think it's "disrespectful" when analysts don't give a lower tiered team a chance to beat the likes of Alabama/Ohio State/etc...? I'll answer for ya.....no they don't.
3). Anybody who isn't a fan of one of the teams playing (I'll use a past game, Union/Appo) could tell by opening your eyes who had the clear advantage. A fan honestly believes their team can win, they should have that feeling, but people on the outside see things more objectively and stay neutral.
4). I was on record of saying that I believed Appo should walk through Union. That isn't "disrespect" towards Union, that's just not believing they have the athletes to compete with Appo. They didn't. They were annihilated. It wasn't competitive. Plain and simple.
5). Of the Final Four remaining, I honestly believe that Richlands has the only shot of bringing down Appo. It will be a tall task, but they have playmakers and their offense can come from behind if need be. I haven't seen Richlands in person, but I'm so back and forth if Richlands has a shot to beat them (if Appo and RIchlands get there). I believe that the Spread can help them come from behind if need be, but I also believe that the Spread plays right into the strength of Appo's speed.

I guess we will all see in a few weeks.....

Well I am glad you missed the entire point. Just use Union as the example as you did. Union fan thinks their team can win, of course they should. They get disrespected because of that. THAT shouldn't happen. So since some neutral person thinks another team has a chance they should be disrespected? Everyone has a right to their own opinion, and not be disrespected because of it

What is your definition of "disrespect"? Someone says Union should win, and then someone else says, "I've seen both teams play, Union doesn't really stand a chance unless Appo turns the ball over a bunch or just doesn't show up", is that "disrespect"? I've actually seen both teams play prior to their game and I gave Union no shot (thought Appo would win by 3 TD's, turned out to be more), am I "disrespectful" for giving Union no shot to win? Come on guys, this is getting out of control.

I see nothing wrong with what you said. It's your opinion and you should be entitled to it. But when some belittle others opinion, then that's being disrepectful. I have seen it on this board quite a bit lately to be honest. I think we can all agree the 4 teams remaining deserve to be here. Good luck to all of the remaining teams Saturday.

Not that isn't disrespectful, but go back and read some of these threads and tell me there aren't some disrespectful posts. That is my point.

I see Gunz point for sure. There is at least one thread on the 1-A board where they are threatening to actually fight each other, and that is indeed getting ridiculous. But that is the nature of these anonymous boards, although in many cases we are not quite as anonymous as we might think we are.

I wonder where the moderator is through all of this. I remember a couple of years ago getting into some sort of disagreement on here, that was mild compared to some of the current stuff, and after a dozen or so posts, the moderator came on and basically said that was enough discussion on the subject, and the other parties and I complied. It should be that simple, but then I guess I can understand that trying to read and possibly referee all the various threads could be a 24/7 job.

Now I can agree with that. If there are people trying to fight one and other, that's ridiculous. But, I don't think it is "disrespectful" to not think a weak team is even going to be competitive with a strong team. There are blowouts all the time in high school sports because the talent discrepancy is so great (especially in the smaller divisions). I don't believe that it is "disrespectful" to laugh when people actually thought that Union was going to "be competitive" with Appo. Just my opinion though.

It is ridiculous, I agree. But this guy pops up every year or two with threats towards me and others. It has been happening for years under various alt names. I'm not going to back down from someone pulling that crap. As silly as it may be.

I personally do not mind when someone picks against my teams...like Gunz said, you should support your team. I do not mind when you tell me why you think I am wrong. What gets my goat is when I say something to the effect of "I think my team will win..." and someone from the other side says something like "you are stupid to post that...".

Disagree all you want to. That is one of the reason the forums are here. But why step on somebody's throat because they voice an opinion? It is okay to post why you think the opposite, you can disagree without being disagreeable.

On the other hand, some of us have REALLY thin skin. If you do not like people disagreeing with you, why post in the first place? I am starting to feel like a "safe space forum" is needed after reading some of these posts!

I think the moderators have changed a bit. I used to be one but when VAPREPS changed formats a while back, the permissions were not always unlocked. I just never sought to be "reinstated". I have heard this from 2 other former moderators.

Yes please everyone understand that I am not meaning just picking against a team. There are a lot of people who pick against my team, no big deal. But when things get disrespectful is when I think it takes it too far

I picked Union beating Appomattox because I am a fan of the Bears. I knew it would be a daunting task and if it were a money bet I would have definitely had to go with Appomattox.

I respect everyone one we play and know that on any given Friday.....

Now, I will root for Appomattox and Richlands this weekend because, personally, I want a 2a West team to win in the end.

Really where are those rules at ? Come on wiki I know you came out and said you didn't want appo to win another state championship witch I don't understand !, the last local school standing and very local to Amherst , I am friends with a lot of Amherst coaches and I know that's not the case with them and I saw you at the appo game top row 50 yard line right? Was hoping Amherst would win at dominion so could have had a rematch at Salem but did not happen ! So come on pull for the raiders should be fun !! Po1

I think we all have a different definition of disrespect. I fully support good natured trash talk. HR6 and Dinwiddie Proud are good examples of prominent posters who dish it out, can take it, but also maintain respect. Personal attacks and threats are out of bounds, IMO, but I'm ok with a lot of the other stuff. I honestly haven't noticed any posts lately that crossed the line. The Buckingham thread a few weeks ago got pretty heated though.

I have never figured out why any poster would get upset at something another poster wrote on virginiapreps. Message boards are for opinions.

Really didn't care one way or the other. I have friends and co-workers that are from Appomattox. I love their community support, reminds me of the time when Amherst won back to back and how the town shut down for those games. I just get frustrated with people's comments sometimes. i actually bragged to many people about how good they are. Just got tired of some of the post on here. Just like now, how long will the subject continue. Anyway they deserved it because they were the best.

I have no complaints wikki ! I could care less to ! I support all local teams when they are playing that's all I was saying , was sorry the river didn't win 3a ! Saw a good friend of mind from Amherst you might know him I call him mr Amherst who is retiring from calling games , wish George the best . Isn't this from like 3 weeks ago just saying !!

Sometimes when I post it because I get irritated from other posters and I shouldn't. I was glad Appomattox won. Some of their fans make me mad is all. Yes George will be missed, He is a very passionate fan of the Lancers. At times George would have tears in his voice when talking about the kids at Amherst. Appomattox fans remind me a lot like Amherst fans and how much they support their team. Most county schools are like that
