Heard from a friend of mine who used to teach at Salem that the kid who was thrown out of the Salem/GW Danville game will not be allowed to play next year----any truth to this rumor.

If he was thrown out IF he's allowed on the team then he would have to sit 2 games. So maybe they were thinking the first two games, but I have never seen a yearlong ban.

A year long ban would require VHSL action.

The VHSL did kick Percy Harvin out after the football season.

If it is true it might be because of what he said on twitter not what happened on the field.

Why was Percy Harvin kicked out? and why aren't the GW experts in the next thread down not answering on this thread? Just wondering

I was thoroughly amused when this played out just because GW fans couldn't accept reality then oddly clammed up and refused to admit they were wrong when their own QB confirmed the entire incident on Twitter(and also made sure to say he would have backed up his friend if he attacked the ref).

Always funny when people think it happens everywhere else but their school or their team.

I'm sure the young man Stephens will be out for a game for his actions. He'll be one of the best linebackers in 4a next year and he'll be missed for whatever discipline he gets. He's a great leader and he made an emotional mistake. He'll be back strong and we'll support him all the way.

Speaking of Percy Harvin, a long time official from down that way told me, in over two decades of working high school football, he never encountered a student athlete more disrespectful, ruder, or unsportsmanlike like than Harvin. You cross paths with a lot of kids in 20 plus years of football. That speaks volumes about his character.

I eventually gathered the idea that Harvin was a little more susceptible than the average player to being provoked out on the field, particularly during his senior year when he was in the big spotlight as the #1 HS football player in the country. I think it kind of painted a target on his back, and a lot of players wanted to get a piece of him. I didn't watch too many of his games, but I'm sure players provoked him because of this recognition and when he would retaliate it would automatically make him look like the bad guy. So I think some of the negative attention he got in high school really wasn't necessary. I even remember saying silly things myself about Landstown & Harvin on here around that time, and I can look back and say I didn't know what the heck I was talking about. Although, that really was the most controversial team that I can remember in the last 15 years or so of watching VA football.

But after that whole deal with Harvin leaving Seattle came out, who knows. Some of us could think back to his troubles at Landstown. Maybe he was provoked, or maybe it was just him. I wasn't out on the field, so I don't know.

You may well be correct. And I'll stay opened minded. But, I don't recall too many stepping forward in his defense over the years, which may tell you something. And, I have heard the at least once, and presumably more, he refused to shake hands at the pre-game exchange in high school.

And, somewhat to his defense, when you have the level of focus placed on you that he, and a lot of similar highly touted high school student athletes have had, it's understandable that many of them get an attitude. So, I'll give him a little break, but until proven different, I'll continue to assume the worst.

FWIW, I interacted with Percy several times during his high school career and he was never the least bit disrespectful to me nor did I ever see him do anything that I thought was over the line.

Not shaking hands? That happens as often as I buy Chick-Fil-a sandwiches at games and my doctor can confirm for you that is not just a once-in-awhile occurrence.

Danville your claim that he will be one of the best linebackers in 4A is a laughing matter that kid is 5'8 160 pounds and a classless white punk. Just had to say this because you can't be making ridiculous statements like that when their is no evidence of him being good just classless and I would be ashamed to have him on my program if I was a fan.

Harvin had anger issues at UF, too. It's not a one-off thing, just an angry dude with a lot of athletic talent.
