Upset-minded Spotsylvania gave Caroline all it could handle for little more than a half, but the homestanding Cavaliers used a 29-2 run to erase a seven-point third-quarter deficit on their way to a 75-57 Battlefield District victory.
Spotsy (2-14, 0-6) led 36-32 at halftime and extended its advantage to 44-37 two minutes into the third quarter. Caroline (13-2, 6-1) then went on a 29-2 run that stretched over the final six minutes of the third quarter and two minutes into the fourth, taking a commanding 66-46 advantage. The run was punctuated by a pair of David Ware dunks.
Ware led all scorers with 31 points-the third time in the Cavaliers’ last four games that the senior has topped the 30-point plateau. He also pulled down 12 rebounds. Junior guard Mykai Smith added 19 points.
Caroline returns to action Friday at King George, while Spotsylvania visits Chancellor the same night.
