Due to the lateness of the hour I will try to shorten this.
RHS receives opening kickoff and moves to the Central 25 before the Falcons stop them on downs.
Falcons then drive the length of the field to score in last minute or so of first quarter. Number 1 sweeps right end from about 15 for the TD. PAT good for a 7-0 lead.
Riverheads gets nice kickoff return plus a penalty to again put themselves on the Central side of the field. But again Central stops them. Number 1 then hauls in about a 35 yard pass to move ahead 13-0 early in the second quarter. PAT fails.
Riverheads keeps grinding away, drives 80 yards, and gets on the board on a short Dalton Jordan run. PAT is blocked. First miss of the year for Skillman but I don't know if it counts as a miss against the kicker if it is blocked? Anyway, that makes it 13-6 with just 42 seconds left in the half.
RHS gets hyper and commits two major penalties on the same play to give the Falcons another scoring chance. Central drives down inside the 10 but fails to score.
Central takes second half kickoff and drives for third and final TD. Not sure who scored it. They go for two and make it.
RHS again drives into Central territory but comes up short. However, Central turns it back over around midfield on a muffed hand-off giving Big Red their best second half chance. They drive all the way to the 1 yard line before Central snuffs it out. 21-6 after three.
No further scoring although each team stops the other inside the 10 in the fourth quarter.
Central came as advertised and since RHS lost to both them and RE Lee by almost the same score, I would be hard-pressed to say which is better. Lee is flashier but Central might be more well-rounded and fundamentally-sound. It will be a super game if those two should happen to meet.
Overall not a bad effort out of the Big Red considering that nearly every possession crossed midfield and they came within a yard of a 21-12 or maybe 21-14 game. If they could have pushed that one across, who knows what might have happened?
Officials were not the best. I can't say they were one-sided but they were just a little bit discombobulated in general. They would throw a flag and then instead of confidently making the call, they would conference for what seemed like 2-3 minutes before deciding on the outcome of the penalty. That kind of indecision happened at least 3 times and once they waved off the flag altogether.
Both teams should go far in their respective playoffs and of course we will have the re-match next October in Greenville.
