I was wondering if anyone knows anything about Amelia County? I guess Lee had an easy game against them in December. Do you guys think that will happen again? Has Amelia improved very much since then? I would be interested to hear from leemen. He seems to be very closely connected to the Lee High program. I bet he has watched a lot of tape of Amelia County. Any thoughts?

I think Amelia has a big advantage at the guard positions and RE Lee has a big advantage inside. I think a big reason both teams are playing for the title is that they both play 'free', if you will. They aren't micromanaged by a bunch of half court sets (whether by design or default). With that being said, I think the two monsters for Lee are too much for Amelia to overcome.

I think you can throw that Dec.loss out the window. Now the last two weeks bears a closer look in that Lee lost the east championship game to Madison and Amelia won the deciding split against Madison to get a shot at a championship. Guard play will be a factor in that Amelia guards can light it up from behind the arc while Lee only had one three point attempt against Dan River. Sure the big men may dominate inside, but I will take three over two hands down.

Run the floor and shoot the ball.

Unfortunately, this mentality is taking over. It's bad enough that fewer and fewer of the kids have the basketball IQ to understand time and situation, but then you add in their friends and family advocating this type of play from the stands. Go to most any high school game and listen to the fans hollering "shoot the ball" just as soon as you cross half court. This is exactly what has made the NBA unwatchable.

Because they are boring and result in those 43-42 games in double OT. Some coaches try to call every play from bench as if it were football. Run the floor and shoot the ball.
Agree... I've heard numerous high school coaches say 'we're not doing that AAU stuff here' as if its a bad thing. A good AAU coach works on the fundamentals and lets the kids play. There is nothing wrong with a quick hitter in the half court set or some type of "burn some clock" action but let the kids play. The idea is to outscore the other team. There is no better opportunity to score than before a defense can get set up.

The NBA is unwatchable because its ISO or Pick and Roll after burning 15 seconds off of the shot clock. Golden St is fun to watch because their hands aren't tied.

If Lee's post players are allowed to camp out in the lane as they were v. Gate City and Dan River, Lee will win. But, if the officials call 3 seconds as it was intended, Amelia has a real chance.

Madison beat Lee in the East Region Championship game with exceptional guard play. Lee was not allowed to camp out under the basket on offense. That negated the Lee size advantage. Amelia has similar backcourt talent.

I think it will come down to how the game is called in the post.

That is fine. You have the right to your opinion. I don't like teams holding the ball either ala - Phil Ford - UNC - 4 corners. I also can not watch teams cross half court and shoot every time either. I find that just as boring and actually that relies on less skill from the players. I like the match ups of differing styles. I like team ball rather than individual ball and I like strategy. I have seen many high school games over the years and I really can't remember any where there was an all out stall. In fact most games I've watched lately show a decline in the skills necessary to hold the ball - usually at the end of a quarter or game. Defensive skills are a major part of the game but most kids only focus on the offense part. Whether we like it or not, coaches try to do what they can to win a game regardless. Not everyone has the personnel to play uptempo and not everyone has personnel to play a more deliberate style of ball. I respect what you like but understand others may not feel the same and that doesn't make them wrong.

I think Lee wins this one...But if the officials do keep an eye on Vaughn and George living in the paint I think Amelia could make it interesting. GC should had played a zone (same old song and dance) and made Lee beat them from the arc. If you can't stop them hack them and put them on the FT line and make them beat you from there. Lee doesn't shoot the ball well from deep....Maybe Amelia's coach has done his homework and sees these things and makes it an interesting game.

Good luck to both teams. Would like to be there watching.

I'll take Lee by 10-12 pts.
