I'll do a little write up tomorrow. Been a long day. For now, it was a typical smash mouth, hard hitting rivalry game. Typical Chancellor vs Courtland.

No Kam-Ron Taylor (FB) for Courtland last night, out for a second week with knee sprain surely hurt. Youngsters slugged it out with Chancellors Senior laden D-1 talented team, just ran out of gas keeping up with that very good team. A bunch of would a, should a, could a for the Cougars and Chargers as well. Courtland fumbled opening kick off and Chancellor scored 3 plays later from the 18 yard line. Then more sloppy play by the Cougars allowed Chancellor to make it 14-0 early and the hole was dug, but give them Sophs credit they fought back to make it 17-14 at the half and I was just a little giggly! Chancellors overall better talent took over in the 3rd quarter to make it 31-14. A great defensive series by the Cougars pinned Chargers deep and they had to punt, that is when the ball whizzed over the head of the punter for a 2 point safety. A earlier Chancellor fumble was returned for a score by Courtland, but just after the safety and subsequent free kick. Courtland gave it right back virtue of a scoop and score fumble by Chancellor. The Cougars were only 8 points down at the time with a good amount of time left in the game. That was just a killer, and let the air out of Courtlands sails. Hard hitting strongly contested game by both squads, one team more experienced one team not as much, but getting better each week. I will say this about Chancellor though, this game in all reality should not have been a game, rivalry or not! Something just wrong with the Chancellor boys, as I believe that I saw a lot of individual play and not so much as team play? That is one very big, fast, and talented team they have there,I believe the best since the late 80's early 90's playoff squads. Chancellor Fan whats up with them? no way they should be 4-2!!??

. I agree something is definitely up with the team. The names of some of the players you heard last year your just not hearing about. What's going on Chancellor fan?

Gents, there is nothing wrong with the Chargers. Not sure exactly what your looking for but if you believe there is some kind of rift in the squad I firmly believe you are way off base. I say that as someone that spends quite a bit of time watching and interacting with the players. As for not hearing names you heard last year ... there is no one not here or not performing that was here last year except those that graduated. I would have to have specific names to address that. Shoot them to me and I will.

If there is any issue that the Charger squad has, its depth in some areas. Injuries haven't helped us much with one D and one O linemen being out since the first couple games (lost one in each game) of the season and neither will be back (both seniors). I did not mention it in the pre or post game write ups, but against EV we also had 3 other players on the bench with injuries and 1 (a D-1 DE) that only played about 10 plays the whole game since he was coming off an injury. Seems like every time the Chargers play EV, one of the teams has a lot of injuries. Maybe one day we'll get that squared up. Otherwise, you play with what you have. No excuses. The loss against James River wasn't as much a catastrophy as people think. The Rapids turned out to be a lot better than believed and yes, the Chargers showed up believing they had that game in the bag. Something that every team in the Battlefield has done one time or another in my 17 seasons watching this district play. They got a wake up call for sure.

As for Courtland. Guys, this game brings out the best and hardest hitting in both of these teams. Courtland threw the ball more than I have ever seen them in one game. Heck, probably more than I have seen them throw in two or three games! 13 attempts! Probably because they knew they couldn't run against the Charger D. With a total of only 101 yards rushing on 38 carries, I'd say good call. But, they only got 90 passing and one of them was a play were the DB just got burned for a 45yd TD. So the Chargers held Courtland to under 200 yards offense. The Cougars scored 1 TD on a very good drive, 1 on a pass that burned a DB and 1 fumble recovery scooped for a TD. Chancellor put 179 yards on the ground and 196 in the air. Pretty balanced attack. A couple players were over 100yds with a total of like 7 or 8 touching the ball. Other than some personal foul issues on both sides and a lot of emotion, I thought this was a pretty good game. A typical Courtland/Chancellor game.

BTW, nothing wrong with being 4-2. They move up every week just based on who they have already beaten and who they will. Four more games of regular season, two of which will be very tough! They know what these games mean. I pray for the injury bug to stay away and we'll see how they look after game 10.
