Is Chatham making a coaching change? Saw a few tweets by Coach Allen that lead me to believe that a change is coming.

Matt was let go as Chatham has chosen to move in a different direction. (The administration at CHS is completely different than when he was hired so they probably want their own guy) Couple of major accomplishments for Matt during time at Chatham
Over 20 school records set
4th playoff game in 69 years of football
14th winning season in 69 years of football
#1 Passing Offense in Region in 2018
#2 Passing Offense in Region in 2019
2 VHSCA All Stars (first since 2005)
River City Coach of the Year 2019
First win over Martinsville since 1992
First win over Altavista since 2007
First sweep of Campbell county since 2007
Multiple players in college with more to be added after this graduating class
New facility built for football team and weight room

I knew the administration situation had changed over the last few years. Don't know what they expect. Chatham has never been a powerhouse in anything but baseball. I thought he was doing a good job. That's an impressive list of accomplishments.

Bad move by Chatham administration. Allen was building that program up. I wonder if the Turner incident had anything to do with the move.
Matt is a great man. Very authentic and sincere. He advised me of the move and thanked me for my support. I’m a huge believer in believing that God makes no mistakes. There’s something out there way better for him. I believe that he’s capable of taking over a bigger program in the 804 or 757 and win a lot of games by doing so. If GW wants to get over the hump, Nick Anderson should give him a call to rejuvenate that offense ASAP while he’s still on the market. James Monroe should also look at him to fill their HC vacancy! Chatham’s loss.

Facts to everything. I’d love to see him get an OC position at a school in Danville or Lynchburg. Maybe he’ll wait around for a HC position. If he wants to leave the area, there’s always Harrisonburg or a james Monroe.

If memory serves me, when he accepted the job at Chatham he said it was a great opportunity because his wife had just taken a job in this area or possibly just over the border in NC, so relocating might not be an option.

I would have to agree, I have had multiple interactions with coach and he is a straight up guy who put life back into the Chatham program...one that hadn't had life in 10-15 years. I'm sure someone will snatch him up.

He’s extremely young (maybe 30 at the max) so hopefully he’ll get an opportunity to go get more experience at a Harrisonburg or even John Marshall in Richmond..He’s going to be successful where ever he goes. To do what he did at Chatham is nothing short of amazing!

Matt did a great job at Chatham. The Cavs were 6-4 during the regular season in a tough district. He led them to playoffs and made football fun again for his players. His aerial attack on offense was entertaining and kids enjoyed his approach to school, coaching, and life. Matt will catch on quickly somewhere. I know a couple schools that have inquired about him coaching at their school. Won't mention them though, I'll let the process play out. Best of luck to him !!

Yeah they never have posted it. Technically have to wait for the next school board meeting (in April) to announce Allen is no longer the HC

Who’s GW’s OC now?
Not sure. GW scored a bunch of points and almost beat Dinwiddie running that beautiful Wing-T formation...then abandoned it for MV, Glass and Salem. Willie, Wesley, and Watlington ALL had a massive game at Dinwiddie. GW just doesn’t mix it up when it matters UNTIL it’s desperation time!

Who I am to say? But I just feel like they should’ve kept what they had in a young, innovative and stable coach. I wish Chatham the best, simply because I’m a homer, but I can’t say I don’t want to see Allen and Altavista to show them who’s boss. Pittsylvania County is extremely political and tends to stick with the good ole boy system.

Seems like an interesting hire. A google search shows he has resigned or abruptly quit at some of the schools he has coached for in the past. I guess we will see how it plays out.

Technically wasn't it a year and three games? So strange to abruptly leave after three games.

There always seemed to be more to that story. The superintendent taking a leave of absence at the same time that Turner resigned as coach then the superintendent getting fired a few months later always seemed interconnected.

Chatham hiring a coach who had just resigned abruptly from his previous coaching job and had also resigned after the VHSL came down hard on Pulaski for illegal practices... Interesting choice.

I know Chatham did really well in the spread recently and had a JV team with a ton of athletes. To fire a spread coach for a ground and pound Wing-T guy is an interesting choice. Good luck to Chatham as I always cheer for teams from the 434 but this will be interesting to watch unfold. Jack has had success turning around teams after really poor seasons but this time he's coming into a Chatham program coming off a winning season and a playoff berth.

I also wonder how long Jack plans to stay around. He's pretty close to being able to retire and just left Carroll after 1+ years.

Sorry for the long post. I've been looking up stuff on Jack Turner since I heard the rumor from the kids not long after Matt Allen was fired. If I think of anything that I forgot I'll add it later.

Well stated and welcome to the board. Not many fans from the 434 are on here.

Jack did an excellent job at Auburn getting that program out of the mess they were in. What was it, like 39 straight losses or something. But yea I'm with you on the fact that he ups and leaves places so quickly. I believe he was having some health issues while at Auburn but I dont recall for sure and I do not know if that played in to him leaving Carroll so soon.

From what information I have gathered, he has resigned from 3 different positions as a head coach, and left many questions about why he left unanswered.
Usually when there is a lot of smoke there is fire from my experience.
