Kempsville sent 18 batters to the plate in the first two innings and cruised to a 15-2 opening day win on a chilly Thursday afternoon at Bayside High School. Ian Pezzella and Jesse Lucero had multiple hits to compliment a strong four innings on the mound from junior Zach Harrison who picked up the win.

Control problems put the Marlins behind the eight ball as they generously allowed five walks (three with the bases loaded) and three hit batters to fall behind 8-0 after two innings. Caleb Whitmore had a 2-run single in the first inning and Reid Hasher drove in his second RBI with a double in the second.

Pezzellz tripled and doubled in runs in the 3rd and 4th innings and later scoring on both hits. He finished with four runs scored and two extra base hits.

Harrison scattered four singles over the first three innings for the Chiefs before giving way to reliever Shane Shearer. Harrison had five strikeouts while allowing five hits.

Bayside scored both of their runs in the fourth inning after back-to-back grounders plated two runs. The Marlins had two batters on in the fifth but Shearer was able strikeout three hitters.
