Chilhowie @ Rye Cove

This game was The Eagles against The Warriors and the Refs for sure. Landon Lane accounted for all of the Eagle touchdowns minus the Will Rollins final touchdown of the game. Chilhowie had a very strong passing game. However, they got away with several OPI calls.

Has rye cove not played a passing team yet this year. Chilhowie threw all over them

Region D might be a little bit more wide open than many of us thought

Favor Rye Cove. They are the best team on D and every team will have a couple of head scratches in the year. Rye Coves A game is better than anyone else in Region Ds. But, if you think RC is a favorite in the entire west (semis) over G. Wythe, that's a big leap. The favs in the west is still the same team most thought preseason, and that team is George Wythe.

Seems like the weakness of Rye Cove is teams that can pass the ball. They gave up 32 to Honaker, and 39 last night. The issue was those teams couldn't stop RC. But yes, GW was my preseason pick to make it to Salem from out west and I've seen nothing thus far to change my mind.

GW will for sure be a tough out. I think a game like last night is what Rye Cove needed though to show them that they aren't going to just imposed their will all the time. They're going to have to fight hard and give it their all or go home. Maybe last night will light a fire in those boys.

RC can score for sure, but their weakness is speed in the secondary and teams that pass it can give them problems. Lee High gave them some problems in the air. One advantage for RC is that outside of D most Class 1 teams don't throw it that much. GW has been loaded either injuries all year and may get healthy by playoff time which will make them much more potent. Credit a solid Altavista team for beating them, but there's a decent chance that if those 2 were to possibly meet again, GW may have a couple of key players back.

I completely agree with the statement of Rye Cove being slow in the secondary. In terms of comparisons this team reminds me of the older Riverheads teams. I wouldn't say to the strength that the old Riverheads teams were at all. But, you expect smashmouth football, and you know you have to watch out for an occasional unexpected pass. However, on defense if you're a passing team you're good to go because they just can't stop it.

I heard Rye Cove had a couple guys injured and were held out against Chilhowie.

As for their usual pass defense - they held Lee to 6 points on offense.

The reason I bring that up? Lee’s quarterback in the last two weeks has thrown for over 900 yards and 12 touchdowns.
