Chilhowie WINS!!!!

25-21, Just call it play Saturday for the Warriors. Galax had the ball late with 2:13 left and was moving the ball with the run game. Then this happens, QB drops back to pass for some unknown reason and throws an int. Not sure if Dixon called that play or not but

Last time I remember Riverheads playing chilhowie was in 1976 at Lee high we lost 7-0 I believe longtimer will know the details I young whipper snapper at the time but vaguely remember it

Devastating. We may have been a little over confident.
Great year with a disappointing ending. I enjoyed watching the guys fight all year

Hopefully, whoever called the play saw something in the defense to justify it. Otherwise, it sounds like a head scratcher.

Double coverage and I bet they would love to have that call back. It seemed the O-line was geared up to make a game winning drive. That call was a real head scratcher. Take nothing away from Chilhowie, they came to win and win they did.

Happy to refresh your memory since I still have mine! Actually it was 1975. Riverheads had won the first district title in school history (the old Alleghany Highlands District) with a 9-0-1 overall record...the tie being the infamous "fog bowl" with Wilson. I have no memory of how the playoffs were structured then, but Chilhowie came to Staunton as our first-ever playoff opponent. (In those days you didn't go to the playoffs unless you won your district.) It was a bitterly cold night, and if my memory serves, the game was scoreless at the half, but don't quote me on that part. But Chilhowie took control in the second half and moved out to a 25-0 lead. Riverheads scored very late to make it a 25-7 final. The next year, the Gladiators would have their first of several 10-0 regular seasons, and played right back on the same field. Another horribly cold night and we lost again, 7-6 to Parry McCluer, even though we had opened the season by beating them on their own field. Riverheads would go on to lose several more playoff games over the years to teams like Strasburg and Lunenburg, but then when Casto came on board, the fortunes turned around and here we are today!

Thanks longtimer I was a little young then but yea those were some pretty good teams back then . The defense called themselves the night stalkers wore black helmets they were good.
