It looks like Central-Wise will have some competition for the state crown.

Their own district opponent - Ridgeview, who won the district tournament over 3A Abingdon - is a legitimate threat.

Both teams come from the very rugged, competitive Mountain 7 District, which always prepares teams well for the post-season.

Add to the mix regional winners - John Marshall, Clarke County and Liberty (Bedford) - all are contenders for the title as well.

I'm really looking forward to this year's state tournament!

That Mountain 7 District is one heck of a district.

I'm watching Central-Wise against Ridgeview for the Region D title on NFHS right now.

An EXTREMELY competitive game between two solid well-coached teams.

It almost feels like a state finals game!

Ridgeview leads Central 32-29 @ half.

I’d say one of them will be state champion, most likely Wise.

I don't know....Ridgeview knows how to play Central.

They 've been 3 very close games this season, all won by Central:

58-52
45-41
65-61 OT tonight's game

I wouldn’t mind seeing Ridgeview win it all. McAmis is Central’s secret weapon. My guess is she’s the one who sealed all those games to give Central the dub. Either way, I’ll be rooting for both teams next week in hopes the Region D girls get a championship since the boys have zero chance even if one of them makes it to Richmond.

McAmis has a really good supporting cast of players.

If I recall correctly, I think she only had two points at the half last night - they were only down three points.

But she came alive in the second half!

I agree Central has a well rounded team. She must have had an off 1st half but found her footing second half. She’s baller & tough. I remember state championship where she practically played on one leg and still put up the points.

She only had 2 points at the half, but finished with 29. They had 3000 people at that game, according to the Bristol Herald Courier.

I think the finals come down to CC and Wise. But the way Ridgeview plays against Wise maybe they can pull it off in the Semis. CC should beat Prince Edward. Marshall should have no problems with Stuarts Draft. Marshall will be a test but feel like CC will pull that out. Would really like to see McAmis vs Mckavish match up in the finals. McAmis winning player of the year going up against i would say the betting favorite for next year in Mckavish. Should be an exciting final 2 weeks

I was flipping through various games on NFHS this past week, and was pretty much able to see the teams that will be a threat to win it all.

IMHO, I just don't see anyone beating Central-Wise/Ridgeview in the finals.

Clarke County has a very nice team as well, and will probably be the championship opponent based on the pairings.

Their district (Mountain 7) schedule alone is a gauntlet, which prepares them very nicely for the post-season.

I watched their championship game last night - What intensity! What a game! What a crowd!

I saw nothing in the other girls games that even came close to what I witnessed.

Of course I know we're talking about high school kids, and 'on any given night'.....

But I don't see that happening!

Good luck to all the teams that have made this far - safe travels!
