A quick look back at some of the action as King William ran away from Caroline 65-6, Colonial Beach rebounding from Friday's loss and defeated Franklin 24-8, and Amelia County continued to show that they are contenders with a 50-7 win. Thomas Jefferson got a key win over Greensville Co. 25-8. Riverheads captured their 40th straight victory winning 28-10 over Stuarts Draft. Northampton and Middlesex completely dominated their opponents with shutout victories. Central Lunenburg had no trouble with William Campbell 49-14. King & Queen Central handled Isle of Wight Academy 39-14. Southampton turned things around by beating Colonial Heights 19-6.

FEATURED CONTEST:

Royal Treatment: King & Queen Central is finally in the spotlight in our "Game of the Week"!

KING & QUEEN CENTRAL (4-0) at ESSEX (2-0)

One of the most anticipated games has really increased in desire a whole lot because the outcome is definitely up in the air with a lot of factors coming into play. King & Queen Central continues to exceed expectations with their explosiveness and great execution appears to be more than ready to give traditional powerhouse Essex a lot more of a game than many assumed earlier in the year.

Johnson2.jpegKam Robinson could have better opportunities in this week's match up to show his talents.

Essex is coming off of a 2-week break after winning their opener and their follow up contest versus Jamestown. The Trojans offense have a dynamic pair of running backs and it will be a high priority to get them going often and early. Dorian Harris has the perfect blend of power, speed, and shiftiness which is a nightmare for opposing defenses. Kameron Robinson has the size and explosiveness to torch defenders and there is no limit to the ways he could be used. This will be the biggest test for the Royal Tigers defense.

It won't be peaches and cream for the Essex defense either. Malik Holmes, Kam Berry, and a host of receivers will be the biggest challenge for the Trojans defense this year. King & Queen Central's balance attack is capable of exposing any weakness of a defense and they have the speed to make the opposition pay.

KEY MATCH: Essex defensive line versus the offensive line of King & Queen Central will be the biggest match up. The Royal Tigers just need to allow enough time for Holmes to be the dual threat monster that he truly is.

UNDER THE RADAR: The Royal Tigers defense is a lot more aggressive than folks give them credit for. Can they keep the penalties down in order to be successful in key moments will be crucial.

BOTTOMLINE: On paper the Trojans are expected to overpower the Royal Tigers but the measure of their will and determination has been greatly underestimated. King & Queen Central has enough talent to be in every bit of this contest. The real match up will be of the minds of Coach Dylan DeHart and Coach Todd Jones. Expect a tough game of chess with Essex making enough moves to check their opponent.

They've actually played two, forfeited two and had one rescheduled due to COVID issues at the opponent's school

This would be the best time for K&Q to shock Essex. They are in rhythm as a team. Playing spring ball and 4 games this year (plus 2 scrimmages), while Essex only played 2 games in 2 years, then out 2 weeks with no practice due to covid issues, lack of conditioning and getting in rhythm by Essex….that all benefits K&Q. We can at least rotate a few guys in and out to keep people fresh. Still gonna say Essex in this one.
