If I had to take a guess, wouldn't most agree that it would be a good thing to host a State Semi-Final game? I know the local businesses benefit and enjoy the boost in revenue because a high school team has a good season. That is why I have a hard time figuring out why King William would deny Essex from hosting a State Semi-Final game at Roger Brookes Stadium. Fun fact about Roger Brookes himself, he has been in attendance for Essex's playoff games this season, and comes to most Essex games.

As a former resident, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins still are, I just can not wrap my brain around this decision. I am sure they would give a lot of business to Central Garage this weekend. The concession stand could be run by a group to help raise money for their organization. I just do not see how bringing thousands of people to your community for a football game can be a bad thing.

If I am wrong then please let me know.

My guess is its the ADs and if that's the case then I'm not the least bit surprised. He can't stand the fact that Essex is successful and he can't stand the fact that a KW alum is the Essex coach. Trust me the fans of KW want the game to be played there. Its a shame that ego has to get in the way of doing the right thing. I'll be so glad when this guy leaves or retires because all he cares about is his own personal agenda. I really was hoping common sense would prevail but I guess you have to have common sense first. I hope the Trojans find somewhere to play Saturday whether it be Middlesex or KG or wherever. KW dropped the boat on this one. They have by far the best facilities in the old Region A and is in a central location and would showcase our school and field while also helping out a neighbor.

The VHSL should force KW to host and if they refuse suspend the KW AD and principal from all VHSL activities . I am sure there is a sportsmanship rule somewhere they are violating by refusing to host.

so do they share gate money, concessions etc...with the school if they use the facility to host?

I dunno

I don't think Haysi/Dickenson County got any boost last year with Altavista.

Re: I dunno

In that case you get the school before you get to the town. And there really isn't any place to eat/stop on the way back over Big A mountain. Also, Altavista brings busses of people with them that don't stop at the same places a carload might. I would think that Honaker/Russell County might see more impact this year.
