Competition for Riverheads

What teams will be able to compete with the red machine next year?
The new Region B will be brutal, whomever wins Region B wins State . Teams in order are Sussex, William Campbell, Altavista , Franklin. I’m certain the streak ends next year. Rappahanock will be a Problem for Region A and everyone else, they will scary good.

Don’t see much difference really nobody gets a bye first matchups will be better and more competitive still only 2 in the finals of the region and it’s not like you got play everybody. Really don’t think it would have made much difference the last four years. Not sure about Riverheads next year a lot spots to be filled by players with not much playing time but will tell you this the backfield will be good and if the OL steps up we will compete

Sorry Trutiger, I don't see adding Sussex, Franklin, and Surry changes anything in B except making it more balanced in number of teams.

Sussex may improve enough to make things interesting. I hope so for you, my friend.

Franklin peaked at beating Essex this year then returned to its old ways and Surry is really bad at football the last few years.

This change does balance things out some in basketball.

Other than that, no changes will occur in B. The Tri Rivers gets destroyed in all other sports by the Neck and Tidewater.

You guys have never faced early round competitive playoff games.

Only one. Galax..Galax will be very good next year as they were young and they will give Riverheads the toughest matchup in a while. Sussex will be fantastic also, but Galax will be big, physical, fast, well coached, and much better in 2019.

So let’s assume RH is 1-3 in regards to seeding in region B. Who do they play different thats competitive? I don’t see the correlation to competition in early rounds by adding two more potentially good teams. It just changes the old second round to the new first and the Red team has faired pretty good there so far. The second round and regional championship should indeed be better but until Altavista and Lunenburg get back to winning consistently there isn’t a big change in my mind to early rounds.

As for 1A overall, there will be several teams that have a very good shot at hoisting the trophy next year. I figure it’s ok if we let this championship simmer for a minute before we jump right back into taking up our teams. Until we get at least a little closer to August 2019, there is only our wishes and speculation on what will happen.

I agree, I have withdrawals when football season ends. I enjoy the other sports but it’s just different with fall of the year and hearing those pads pop. I can’t speak for others but I cruise the other seasonal boards even though I rarely if ever post. Might have to change that this year just to keep it going, lol.

Can't believe you think the Tigers , Broncos or any one else can compete with the Red Machine . For now 1A is ruled by the Gladiators . Even with the out going class they will be in the hunt next season . To much talent in Greenville. The kids have the system down pat . Even if there were major coaching changes , the Red Team would be trouble for who ever they play . They have a mental edge over everyone !
It;s a long ride to the valley next season for the team that wins the prize of getting smacked in the mouth ! lol

No slight against Riverheads but I guess they are the only team in 1a that practices, lift weights, has a supportive community, has tradition and pride ?
Please be this cocky when the season begins. Riverheads will not be in Salem next year if they do I’ll find you and cheer them on with Riverheads gear on.

You can't take anything he takes seriously, every year he comes on and says he bad Riverheads is, then how great they are, then says the coaching sucks, etc.

You are correct, they have the system down pat. Until VHSL finds their Balls it will stay that way.

@trutiger16, did you copy and paste that remark again. I see @honestjohn60 is back beating the horse again too.

Glad there is so much interest in our numbers. I would refer both of you back to a letter that was from the area VHSL rep (someone associated with East Rock) but I can’t find it.

This topic is fun to go over about every week or so during football season. Seems to get quieter when it’s in the season of sports we don’t do well at but it has nothing to do with winning. It’s just not fair.....
Blah blah blah, rinse and repeat.

Don’t hate appreciate, #RollPride

Sounds like a good assignment, maybe you can go to the school and find those missing kids. I heard a rumor they are in room 474 or 475, maybe it was 474.5?

At least try and get a picture of the half a kid, and maybe throw an invite to XCross and get the picture of him, should be worth as much as Big Foot by now.

In all seriousness, where do you plan to eat? Only things I can think of in Greenville is fast food and Edelweiss

Have a really good Italian restaurant in downtown Greenville now called Giovannis. Really good food.

Shows how long it's been since I have been that far in Greenville. Family lives in their school zone, and of course been to sports places, but that's about it.

@trutiger16 if you want any other suggestions, maybe listen to the Riverheads folks. Only place I can think of within 10 miles or so is Peck's BBQ or a few places in Draft. Always stop at Whites Truck Stop in Fairfield

I personally am ready to move on to basketball and in fact am about to post my first review of the first RHS roundball game of the season. But at that game tonight, someone requested that I post this incredible statistic.......If you total up the records for this season at Riverheads from the midget football team to the juniors to the seniors in the Little League program; then add in the JV team and of course the varsity, you end up with a combined record of 51-3, I believe the gentleman said.

As mentioned before, the "system" is taught from a very early age and with those kind of numbers it must be working. I would assume this should answer the question of whether Riverheads will be competitive in the coming years.
