Conference 36 championship game update?

Lee wins 58-57. Darius George led Lee with 21. Logan led East Rock with 14 and was the only ER player in double figures. Lee had three in double figures. Lee is on a roll and will do well this week coming up.

No, the correct final of the consolation game was 50-33. I might as well use this thread to do my usual thing, even though tonight there is not that much to talk about from a Riverheads standpoint.

After giving East Rock a very good game last night, the Gladiators were simply never in this one from the opening whistle to the final horn. I don't know if Wilson did anything in particular on defense that caused it, but whatever the case, the Big Red was out of sync and downright timid on offense, they shot terribly, and on defense they simply had no answer at all for Dean Shaner. (For those of you who don't know, he is Wilson's 7'1" center.)

In the past 7 or 8 games in which the Gladiators encountered him, they had always been able to at least neutralize him and in most cases, they simply outplayed him. But tonight he just dominated the inside and scored at will and nothing that RHS tried against him took him out of his game.

The game was so bad for the Gladiators that there was only one 30-second period of action all night in which they did anything that got their fans even the least bit excited. They had struggled terribly through the first three quarters, scoring only six points in each one, and trailed 35-18 going into the final stanza.

But Zach Roberts must have listened to the pep talk in the huddle because he came out and dropped in six quick points on a triple and an old-fashioned three, and with 7:32 still left in the game, the lead was suddenly down to 11, giving the Gladiator fans an ever so slight glimmer of hope. He scored yet another bucket a minute or two later, but Wilson didn't let it phase them and when all was said and done, the fourth quarter ended up being a 15-15 draw.

Roberts ended up being the only Gladiator in double figures with 12, and sophomore Harrison Schaefer was next in line with 5, all of which he scored in the final minute or two. No one else had more than four for the Big Red. It was just that kind of night and the best thing they can do is forget this one and come out fresh on Tuesday.

With this loss, the Gladiators will be sent to George Mason and Wilson will travel to Strasburg. Meanwhile, the Leemen and Eagles will get home games, as they will host Page County and Luray respectively as a result of tonight's championship game, and what a game that was!!!

I will let their fans do most of the talking but I will just say that Darius George was definitely the difference for the Leemen. As for East Rock, someone above said that Lam was the only player in double figures for them. I am surprised by that because I thought Shannon Cross was just all over the place for the Eagles and I would give him the game ball for their side.

The first half was nip and tuck as Lee took a 28-27 halftime lead. The Eagles then came out and took early control of the third quarter. But the Leemen hit their stride and built a 10-point lead at 52-42 early in the fourth.

But the Eagles came roaring back to tie it at 55 on a Cross steal and driving lay-up that nearly brought the house down. Lee kept its composure and closed it out at the foul line, even though the Eagles had one last desperation play from 3/4 court with just .9 left, and actually got a final heave from Lam that at least touched iron.

There was also some excitement in the Lee stands in the fourth quarter as a particularly feisty female fan was escorted from the premises. Although I was relatively close to the scene, I am still not sure what happened. She was sitting about 3/4 of the way up in the stands but came down front behind the scorer's table. At that point, someone from East Rock rushed over and spoke to her, I suppose to ask her to move. She must have refused and given the guy an argument because he called over a deputy who put her out.

There was also a person behind her that was perhaps broadcasting or filming the game and I guess it is possible she was in a restricted area???? If anyone else knows anything more, maybe you can explain.

But back to the game, it was a classic and demonstrated what championship games are supposed to be like. Best of luck to all four Conference 36 teams as they do battle Tuesday with Conference 35's top four.

Page is suppose to travel to Staunton and take on Lee for second yr in a row...last yr, Page put up a good fight, but feel short...hopefully, this time will be different, but, I believe Lee is playing better then they were earlier in the yr..and Luray travels to Elkton to take on East Rock....East Rock may be the favorite, but, it's hard to beat a good team three times in one yr
