Confirm

They don't play until the end of the season according to Maxpreps, so I don't think this is true.

Thank you! I couldn't find that score which I thought was odd but someone was sure that they had done that over the weekend. Good thing I asked the internet aka you guys.

Both KW and CHS faced Open Friday night. As all historians know Open has yet to win a game in its long, storied history. Essex, Rappahannock, and Mathews get Open this Friday.
But Open is undefeated and unscored on too!

If you've watched a game with a running clock in person you can see that if a team doesn't want to run it up, they don't have to. You can run one play every 60-90 seconds. Usually the refs are a little more lethargic in getting the ball spotted, getting guys off of the ground, and winding the ready for play. You can literally eat up almost 6 minute by going 3 and out.
It seems from that box score last year that 75 points came before the half. I still don't understand the need to be up 75-12 at the half. Or to tack on 15 more even with your backups. I know plenty of y'all will have arguments for scoring that much. "It's their job to stop them" "it was the 4th string running back" "they're just running their offense" etc... All fine and well but the truth is you have to try and score 90. 90 doesn't just happen in a football game. 75-18 is pretty demoralizing in itself. 43-12, TD pass. 50-12, TD pass. Don't see a need for running it up. At 43-12 in the second, you know the game is over.
I know many of y'all disagree but just my .02

In 2012 Essex played a Northampton squad that only dressed 13 maybe. No offense to the kids in that game, but it was the worst football team in the history of football. Essex's offense was run and gun, but I think they were only 3 for 4 passing that game. I don't think Northampton recorded 5 tackles that game, and fumbled every play and ended with negative 50 plus total yards. The clock was running in the second quarter and 8 minutes in the 3rd quarter magically vanished. Essex took a knee on their last extra point to win 89-0, but there was nothing they could have done. I don't agree on running up the score either, but sometimes there is nothing you can do.

It really stinks for a team to be punished because the team that agreed to play them can't compete. Your backups are dying to play & show what they got. Now, they only get to run up the gut & lose any game experience opportunity they could have.

It's easy to score 40-50 in the first half against a bad team. Now, all of a sudden, you're a bad coach if any starter plays ONE SNAP in the second half. On top of that, you get judged because you want your QB2/QB3 passing in a game scenario to improve your team.

I'm all on-board for running the ball once you get into the 4th quarter, but I'll never judge a team who is competing & succeeding. THAT'S THE GOAL!!

People who whine about scores in any sporting event are usually just losers who can't handle the competitive reality. Sure, there are some mean-spirited coaches & players out there who try to pile on & rub it in, but that is incredibly rare.

I know this isn't the perfect answer, but it sort of applies.

My father taught me that if I didn't like getting my ass beat, do something about it.

Of course there are different circumstances for all of these, but it sounds like this team couldn't do anything about it, which is incredibly sad.

Even with my post a couple weeks ago about feeling sad for things like this, even I have to disagree with the guy who posted about the difference in 75 in first half and 90 total. While I disagree with throwing in 2nd half period, and heck my opinion could be wrong, but you can't just tell your kids to quit in 2nd half. Scoring 15 in 2nd half with your lowest players seems unavoidable. They could have ran the ball up middle every play and scored twice.

I can be the toughest guy, and not be scared, but if I got in ring with Tyson it wouldn't have went well. It would have been quick (of course me winning lol jk). If i got in there with his worst opponent of all-time it might have went better, but still not in my favor. Or even a smaller guy. Sometimes you are just way overmatched

It's definitely rare but it happens. Maybe that's why Middlesex's coach made his team fall to the ground on all plays in the 2nd quarter on that next year we played them. You see. I don't agree with giving up. Never ever should you give up. Coaches have argued time and time again that our 1st team offense needs practice to prepare them for playoffs. I get that. But are we missing a point here? Should all levels of players be it JV or 2nd & 3rd teams on Varsity never have a chance to get real game time experience? What's the answer?

The only issue I've ever had with blowout games is typically when the team that is winning puts its 2's in contest suddenly the team that's getting whipped starts blitzing and bringing the house with its starters. Those 2's can get hurt when that takes place and I've seen it happen.

Along those lines NNDman is something I saw that was more funny than sad. We were winning big, subs had been in awhile, and were moving the ball at will. The RB broke through the line and was finally brought down by three defenders about 20 yards downfield. One of the tacklers jumped up and did a dance and pounded his chest as if he had just sacked the QB for a 50 yard loss. I said " really kid?"

To his defense, I found out afterwards that he was a special needs kid that only gets on the field once or twice a game. So what appeared to be arrogance was really something to be celebrated.

BTW, the Higland Springs JV beat the Lee-Davis JV 71-0 last night. 55-0 at half time. 48-0 after the first quarter. This is one of those cases that looks like the score was run up purposely. In reality, the Springers coach did all he could to show mercy.

West Point beat K&Q 75-0 last year. Starting running back touched the football 7 times and scored 5 TDs (one was a punt return). Sometimes the score gets high and you can't help it.

Looking at their results from last year it looks like the 90 point game was no fluke or a result of King William running it up. In their district games they gave up 68 to Charles City, 70 to Middlesex, 75 to West Point and 90 to King William. Ouch thats like 300 points given up in 4 games

63-6 is a borderline "in your face" score, but our argument was well illustrated. Our subs scored 21 points and gave up none last night against Prince George's #1's. Sometimes an ugly score just happens.

Yup. It's literally a sports competition. If being a good sport means not competing, I'm not interested in being that kind of good sport.
