Have followed this from many miles away, but would just like to extend congrats to some hard-working coaches from the Northwestern District.
Coach Butler has done remarkable job to build Millbrook back to a stable program in just his second season. Everyone remember when the Pioneers started 0-9 (might have been worse) during the '13-'14 season? Well, a year later, Millbrook has two losses TOTAL, won the Northwestern District, and will be the No. 1 seed for the Conference 21 tournament. Oates and Harrell are the go-to guys, but other players have filled roles well and gives this team plenty of offensive punch. Plus, I'm told, they REALLY get after it all over the floor on defense. Well done, M!
Talk about a guy getting his group to play above expectations? Well, that would be Coach Williams down at Sherando. The Warriors finished up 17-4 in the regular season and will host a Conference 21 playoff game. How many outside the program thought this was possible last November, given the graduation of top players like Curtis and Isaish W. along with the transfer of prospective D1 prospect Golden? This just reaffirms the fact that Garland Williams can coach. He's always been one of my favorites. Great job, G!
Special shout-out to Coach Bates at Skyline. Sure, they've slipped back a bit of late, but to have nine wins out of this team proves that Coach Bates has been able to reach his kids and have a good plan to make them a lot more successful than they were the year before. Skyline was a bad two-win team in '13-'14 but the team has grown in leaps and bounds and that is definitely a credit to the hard work of the kids and the plan Coach Bates put forth. Congrats on the improvements, Skyline!
Good luck to all in the post-season. And if you'e near Millbrook Friday night, drop in and witness the school retire Erick Green's high school No. 1 between games. Winchester can be proud it has one of its own now in the NBA!
