Congrats Appo on a fantastic season.........a well deserved 1st state championship !
No disrespect to Clarke but I thought Appomattox played with them... Jet sweep pass... Mixed in a little run, thought they could have passed at will but played CCs game on them... Controlled 1st half and played keep away. Appo defense was the REAL DEAL.Congrats to Appomattox. Game went about like I expected, other than Appo waited til 4th quarter to put it away.
5 INTs when CC got away from runAppo defense gave up a total of 12 points in semi final and state championship against 2 run heavy teams that doesn't like to throw the ball.
Clarke started to try and pass and Appomattox got back to back INT returns for TD's. That made it look worse than what it was.Wow, that one got ugly in the late stages. I left with about 7 minutes left, pretty much assuming that 21-6 or something close to that would be the final. Anyway, Appo was in control from the very beginning. Awesome crowd on their side too.
They didn't wait. Clarke held up well until the end. Appo had more talent, fewer guys that played both ways, and wicked sped. Clarke had not seen ANY team as fast as Appo this year.Congrats to Appomattox. Game went about like I expected, other than Appo waited til 4th quarter to put it away.
Had a great day! It was good to meet you Clarkefan. They didn't wait. Clarke held up well until the end. Appo had more talent, fewer guys that played both ways, and wicked sped. Clarke had not seen ANY team as fast as Appo this year.
Still had a fun time at the game, nice to meet Advocate! I was told that Berryville was pretty much empty yesterday because the stands were sure full of everyone from Clarke County!!
Congratulations to both teams, didn't come out the way I hoped, but both teams had great years. The fact that it was 14-6 at the end of three made the final score a little misleading, but it was Apps day for sure. What impressed me the most were the Raiders receivers. They made some circus catches, I'm talking Odell Beckham type grabs. When I get my highlights finished you will see what I'm talking about. Both Crowds were spirited and the most amazing thing of all was the weather. You would have thought it was a September game with 75 degrees at kickoff. Of the three teams I was rooting for yesterday, Clarke, Riverheads and Stone Bridge, it wasn't too good for me but the experience of State Championship Football was a great way to spend the day, and I thank the Lord everybody was able to travel back and forth safely. See you guys next Football Season. Moe
Deven Dews high jumps in track. The acrobatic pick on a fourth down for Clarke by Appo was an AMAZING catch!! I could NOT believe he got that high up and contorted himself that much to grab it. I can't wait to see the picture of that catch!
I hope he plays basketball too! Talk about air time!Deven Dews high jumps in track.
That was Devin Dews. He is 6'2 and a state champion high jumper. The acrobatic pick on a fourth down for Clarke by Appo was an AMAZING catch!! I could NOT believe he got that high up and contorted himself that much to grab it. I can't wait to see the picture of that catch!
The real high riser is #7, Dre Perkins, the kid who scored their first TD. He plays basketball and can jump out the gym. @AdvocateOfMany434 who would you say has more hops? Devin or Dre?I hope he plays basketball too! Talk about air time!
You and I both! That whole stand was unreal! That linebacker, Delonta Kelso is only a junior so, he wil be back next year.I would love to see a pic of the goal line stand where the appomattox linebacker met clarks QB at the line of scrimmage.
Hmmmm. Probably Deven Dews. The real high riser is #7, Dre Perkins, the kid who scored their first TD. He plays basketball and can jump out the gym. @AdvocateOfMany434 who would you say has more hops? Devin or Dre?

From a coaches perspective, Appomattox was the best team in the Lynchburg area. JF may have had the best individual player but Appomattox was the best team. IMO, their defense was as good as any. I think they could definitely compete with both and perhaps beat MV (similar styles of play but Appomattox gets the edge because of thier defense). Salem would be a tough matchup for them IMO because of how Salem's front 7 were on defense. I think they would be a little too much for the Appomattox OL in the end. Of course all of this is just speculation but it's interesting to talk about.Just for discussion for those who have seen other divisions. How do you think Appomattox would have done against the 3a and 4a champs?
