Congrats to Appomattox on your state championship !

Fastest team seen by Clarke this year, awesome pass blocking by Appo's line giving their QB loads of time, and a quick defense.

If Clarke could not have won it, then Appomattox is the team I'd want as the state championship. Well done.

Congrats to Appomattox. Game went about like I expected, other than Appo waited til 4th quarter to put it away.
No disrespect to Clarke but I thought Appomattox played with them... Jet sweep pass... Mixed in a little run, thought they could have passed at will but played CCs game on them... Controlled 1st half and played keep away. Appo defense was the REAL DEAL.

Appo defense gave up a total of 12 points in semi final and state championship against 2 run heavy teams that doesn't like to throw the ball.

Clark hurt themselves with costly penalties on drives that were working but Appo was far better team. I don't understand the very short kickoffs by Clark giving Appo that field position but would not have mattered anyway. Appo had a lot of athletes and just way faster. Congratulations to both teams making it to state. Nobody on that field should hang their heads. Enjoyed the game, great crowd.

Wow, that one got ugly in the late stages. I left with about 7 minutes left, pretty much assuming that 21-6 or something close to that would be the final. Anyway, Appo was in control from the very beginning. Awesome crowd on their side too.
Clarke started to try and pass and Appomattox got back to back INT returns for TD's. That made it look worse than what it was.

They didn't wait. Clarke held up well until the end. Appo had more talent, fewer guys that played both ways, and wicked sped. Clarke had not seen ANY team as fast as Appo this year.

Still had a fun time at the game, nice to meet Advocate! I was told that Berryville was pretty much empty yesterday because the stands were sure full of everyone from Clarke County!!

Congratulations to both teams, didn't come out the way I hoped, but both teams had great years. The fact that it was 14-6 at the end of three made the final score a little misleading, but it was Apps day for sure. What impressed me the most were the Raiders receivers. They made some circus catches, I'm talking Odell Beckham type grabs. When I get my highlights finished you will see what I'm talking about. Both Crowds were spirited and the most amazing thing of all was the weather. You would have thought it was a September game with 75 degrees at kickoff. Of the three teams I was rooting for yesterday, Clarke, Riverheads and Stone Bridge, it wasn't too good for me but the experience of State Championship Football was a great way to spend the day, and I thank the Lord everybody was able to travel back and forth safely. See you guys next Football Season. Moe

Congratulations Appomattox! A great team that had at where it counts in all phases of the game. You guys deserved it this year because you earned it. You lined up against every team that was before you and beat them all.

Congratulations to the TEAM, coaches, fans and community......WELL DONE CHAMPS!!!!

The acrobatic pick on a fourth down for Clarke by Appo was an AMAZING catch!! I could NOT believe he got that high up and contorted himself that much to grab it. I can't wait to see the picture of that catch!

I posted this on Appomattox County Facebook page and I will post it here as well. Appomattox's story of triumph from tragedy is an inspirational one!

As a proud Dan River fan and alumni, I want to congratulate the players, coaches, cheerleaders, administration, and everyone at Appomattox County High School on winning the 2A Football State championship! You all have done something special for the community of Appomattox, that went through so much tragedy! You are now 15-0 & STATE CHAMPIONS! Well deserved! That Power of 1 is Amazing! #PO1 #Respect!

Can't feel too bad losing to a great team. Heck, come to think of it, 3 of the Wildcats' 4 football losses came at the hands of State champions (2 - Appomattox County, 1 to Magna Vista).

Congrats again! Cherish your title win, I know we do for basketball from 2014!

Both of these schools made it further than they ever have before, and both should be commended on great seasons. Clarke was able to put history behind them and prove the doubters wrong by getting to the state game. Even with the loss, the trip and experience will be an invaluable learning experience for the players and coaches.

Appomattox may not have had as many doubters, but living up to the hype and expectations was a feat in itself. I've always thought it was harder to win when expected to more so than when nobody gives you a chance.

Congratulations on the state championship, but maybe more importantly, on overcoming the adversity faced by the whole community. The Pride Lasts Longer Than The Pain!

That was Devin Dews. He is 6'2 and a state champion high jumper.

Just for discussion for those who have seen other divisions. How do you think Appomattox would have done against the 3a and 4a champs?
From a coaches perspective, Appomattox was the best team in the Lynchburg area. JF may have had the best individual player but Appomattox was the best team. IMO, their defense was as good as any. I think they could definitely compete with both and perhaps beat MV (similar styles of play but Appomattox gets the edge because of thier defense). Salem would be a tough matchup for them IMO because of how Salem's front 7 were on defense. I think they would be a little too much for the Appomattox OL in the end. Of course all of this is just speculation but it's interesting to talk about.
