On October 7 at a HS football game in Massachusetts, history was made. https://www.foxnews.com/sports/patr...-touchdown-massachusetts-high-schools-history
Google- 2015 patrick henry, va football girlIt's actually more common than most people think. I can think of several young ladies that have played on teams here in the New River Valley.
I can beat that story, however. My son, who played for Pulaski County and graduated with the Class of 2015, went on to join the Army after high school. He has met several people that he knew from around the area while he's been in, but one stands out and is relevant to this story.
Tyler is currently in Drill Sergeant School at Fort Jackson, SC. There are several female candidates in the class with him. He said one kept looking at him like she knew him, but he couldn't place her. Finally, she came up and started a conversation with him about where he was from. He told her Virginia. She said she was too. He said he was from near Blacksburg, and she asked where exactly because so was she. He told her he grew up in Pulaski County and graduated from PCHS. She told him she grew up in Roanoke and went to Patrick Henry. He told her when he graduated, which oddly was the same year she graduated. She asked him if he played any sports, and he told her football and track. She told him she played safety and wide out for Patrick Henry the whole time she was in high school.
For several years, they were on the same football field together at times. Now, they find themselves in Drill Sergeant School together. I've sent him a message to see what her name is, but if anyone here is from PH and knows who she is (Patrick Henry Class of 2015, girl football player) I'd love to see if anyone has a picture of her playing so I could send it to him.
I ran into a bunch of people I went to school with while I was in also. It's a small world.
Thank you Dave, your son, and the young lady from Roanoke, for choosing to serve our county. It's actually more common than most people think. I can think of several young ladies that have played on teams here in the New River Valley.

Cameron McBride has stuck with it, she does Scout team work in practice and always has a smile on her face.Salem actually has a girl on the roster this year. I cannot find a name (weirdly absent from Maxpreps) but she is the sister (twin, I think?) of another player, #69 Carter McBride. She sports #60 and plays guard. I'm not sure how many games she's appeared in this season but I know for a fact she saw quite a bit of playing time against Blacksburg, appearing on the OL for a couple of TD drives. Was definitely a neat moment to witness and she was fearless as a blocker!
