I was glad to see both teams throughout this highly contest contest showed nothing but respect for each other during the game. over the past 4 years that was not the case. a terrible thing happened a few years ago when a courtland player was stabbed to death at a party and JM was held accountable for it by the media but imo it wasn't a JM courtland dispute. it was a personal dispute that had nothing to do with the football teams or schools. this horrible happening escalated when JM and courtland faced off and it was bad blood and the sportsmanship on the field was anything but. don't get me wrong this is a rivalry since day one but that incident just escalated the rivalry between the two schools. I am glad that I can say these two teams played one of the cleanest games of the year. with both teams headed to the post season I feared of someone being ejected as I even wrote a post warning of the consequences.
at the jv championship game Saturday I talked with coach serbay about the game and to hear him say nothing but good things about JC Hall and his team and even pointed out what a good kid Jabari allen is as he congratulated him after the game. serbay had nothing but good things about the way the cougars ran the wing t even saying they ran it as good as it could be run. on the field I saw the two teams patting each other on the helmets and even saw them help each other up. believe me the intensity was at a fever pitch as this game was anticipated since the first game of the year and everyone kept their cool. the only out of the way thing I saw was with about 30 seconds left in the game I made the remark to mike nelms (as we did the game on tv) there has not been any late hits or personal fouls on either team a rarity when these two teams play after all that has happened between the two teams. low and behold because of frustration one of the JM players said something the ref didn't like and called un sportsman conduct on him. the veteran JM pa announcer Julian bumbrey heard me say it on the telecast and laughed and told me I jinxed them! imo the ref with that little time left probably should have overlooked it and let the clock expire.

it was good to see this with all the bad blood between the two. it was a pleasure to see a good game with two of the best teams and coaches in the state without all the un sportsmanship actions by the players as we have done all those games on tv and witnessed it first hand. congratulations guys as you competed with all you had without doing things that would have hurt your teams and most important getting you a sideline seat rather than playing this Friday night. good luck as you head to the playoffs!
