After not having a game last week against William Campbell due to WC's cancellation (still checking to see if that will be considered a forfeit by the Generals), Dan River hosted the Gretna Hawks on Thursday in Ringgold. This was DR's first game since losing a 21-18 heartbreaker to Appomattox Co two weeks ago.
The Wildcats came away with a 49-16 victory over the Hawks. DR scored twice in the first quarter (TD run and a Pick 6) and added a third one (rushing) to lead 21-0 at halftime. The Wildcats would score twice more (1 rushing, 1 passing) in the third to go up 35-0, but the Hawks came down and scored a TD on a short run and added in a conversion run to make it 35-8. In the 4th quarter, Gretna got a great punt return and connected on a TD pass as they cut the Wildcats' lead to 35-16. DR closed out the game with another TD run and a strip-and-score on the proceeding kickoff return to win 49-16.
The JV Wildcats are now 6-1 or 7-1 on their crazy season. They had two wins by forfeit in Bartlett Yancey (NC) and Nelson County, with a possible third one in William Campbell. DR will next play a makeup game on Monday, Nov. 2 at Chatham and at Altavista on Thursday, Nov. 5.
