I can't believe tryouts are already starting. These next few weeks will fly by and we will be posting scores in no time.
So here I ask this, does anyone think there will be great surprises in store this season? Any sport? Any team? I'm not going to post any sort of rankings or anything like that yet, I'm just talking about who returns what and who is going to be stacked.
I think the new playoff system will really make the Radford Jamboree...interesting (haven't decided on better yet).

Don't know what the new playoff system is but as for JR boys soccer we lost 3 sr's and will field alot of returning experience who have played a lot of rec, some travel, and 4 yrs of high school together. Should be a good year for JR in soccer.

In new playoffs an East/West final is guaranteed. It was a rare occurrence to have a West team in the state final prior. (And rightly so most years). I wish JR the best. they are in a tough district/region. Very curious to hear what Radford/Appo/Giles/Graham will have this season soccer-wise as well.
Anyone know softball/baseball info?

JR softball graduated 4 which starters P, 1st base, 3rd base and outfielder, so a good bit to replace, Pitchers little sister will likely fill her spot, not sure about the rest. They should be competetive but I don't look for them to make any deep runs this year. Not sure on baseball.

Appo graduated 6 seniors (2-1st Team All-State and 1-2nd). They will have a new head coach and for the most part an entire new coaching staff. To repeat last year's success is going to be extremely difficult, especially with a region featuring Giles, JR, Nelson and others.

WOW! I did not realize they had that many seniors. Were they all starters?
I did see that their coach was stepping down last season. Good dude right there. Hope the new fella works out as well.
I looked at rosters last night and saw that Giles lost two starters to graduation. They will have approx. 8-10 seniors this season.
I also hear that Graham is going to be putting their best field player in goal more than likely. If it is the kid I'm thinking of, he is a stellar goalie, but their best chance of garnering wins on the field.

Does Giles have their keeper back or was he one of the seniors?

He'll be hard to replace, he did a heckuva a job in goal. Size, speed and good hands.
I spoke to a coach on this matter the other night. He said, "Good thing the kids had two younger brothers, huh?"
In 1A Galax kicks things off Wednesday with a scrimmage against Pulaski (4A).
Martinsville plays tomorrow against Cburg (4A) as well. The bulldogs are always a test for any team. Curious to see what they have out there this year.

So these are scrimmages, but still...
Martinsville and Christiansburg tied 2-2 in a scrimmage Tuesday.
Anny scrimmage info.
Appomattox and Giles will play in a preseason jamboree in Martinsville Saturday, but they will not play each other. Guess we will have to hope to see that one in May.

JR boys plays in a jamboree sat at William Byrd, looks like weather might cooperate for it. I'll try post schedule when I get a look at it.

Jamboree starts at 1:30 and includes WB, Liberty, SR, Glenvar and JR. 2a schools have their work cut out for them.

Nice Jamboree. Are they playing round robin?
Giles tied Pulaski (4A) 3-3 last night. I skipped out...told for just a scrimmage. LOL
I got a text the said Giles was up 3-1 with about ten minutes left. Don't know much more than that.
Radford has a scrimmage with GW tonight. They usually play each other well.

They are just running 2 teams in 35 min intervals 5 min break between session w each team playing 3 times? I think JR gets SR, Liberty and Glenvar. I think one of the teams actually plays back2back session one time. $5 admission for spectators w concessions being sold. About 4-5 hours of non stop high school soccer. JV's playing on practice field as well w similar scheduling.

I saw that Nelson Co. beat 4A Heritage last night. JR plays them regular season right? Keep us updated there, OnceaKnight.

First 35 min scrimmage, WB 5 Liberty 0

Second 35 JR 3 SR 0

3rd 35 min WB 1 Glenvar 0

4th game Liberty 2 SR 0

5th round Liberty 0 JR 0

I agree, but this board gets VERY little use. I get why the powers that be keep it like it is. Now, for instance, there is nothing to report. Nearly all games of any sort in the area are postponed.

I not like wading thru soccer , looking for baseball and softball stuff.
Well, that is something you will have to find a way to live with. There isn't a whole heck of a lot of baseball, softball stuff posted on here. I have asked others to post it, but I am not. I only have time to keep up with one sport a season.

That is true reference baseball and softball. I guess most posters are still "thinking" basketball and football. I will try to post more on softball and baseball. There are several college recruits I plan to go see this spring.
