I know the past 5 years at our school have been very good to us. I know as a fan base we were spoiled. I also know that you are started to embarrass yourself and the team this year. This years team is not last years. They are young, VERY inexperienced, an under an enormous amount of pressure to live up to what the teams before them accomplished. Growing pains are to be expected, but during these times you are supposed to stay behind your team. While understandably being upset with things such as the amount of fumbles this year it does no good at all constantly yelling at the team. I thought your job as the teams fans was to stay behind them, build them up; not break them down whenever they make a mistake.

This year so far has been what many of us expected, with the obvious growing pains. If you want them to get better over time though you need to stay behind them during the games. While I'm not always a fan of our offense or play calling, it's very hard to blame a coach for "bad play calls" when we fumble the ball away 5+? times in a game. How do you know the plays weren't working? We couldn't keep the ball long enough to find out. Twice the team was deep in Gap territory, once trailing 6-0 and once trailing 12-0 in the 3rd. A score either time puts pressure on Gap, but the first drive was fumbled away and the 2nd stopped on downs. Finishing drives is something this young team still has to learn.

My entire point is many of you are turning into the exact type of fans people said you would an it's not doing anything to help this team out.

My one major complaint to the team is play with some pride boys. Show a little life. I see too many of you standing on the sidelines talking to each other and not even paying attention to what is going on. Other than that keep fighting and giving your all out there!

For the most part Trevor I think you are spot on. What I will say is that all fans question the play calling and coaching when things are not going good. Depth of players and experience go back to what many stated last year. Why run up the score just to do it and not give time to the underclassmen? That truly does belong to the coaches. As for playcalling, it makes it a lot easier when you have the athletes they had for the past 4 years to run the double wing, although in my opinion it's all predicated on blocking and I do not see that being taught effectively by the staff. There are still some very solid players there and it can change with a few wins strung together. Success breeds success when tempered with humility and hard work. I am in no way questioning the work put in by some of this years team but I am not sure the commitment is present that the phenomenal class that graduated last year had. The atmosphere at the couple of games I attended did nothing but confirm the lack of football knowledge of a lot of your "fair weather" fans. I was asked by one of your fans why it seemed Wilson was running the same 3 plays all night. I did my best to explain that it was the same 3 plays they ran last year that earned them a trip to Salem. It's tough to hear but this years team has some soul searching to do, cause in the end the coaches do not execute the plays, it's the players that must block, run, tackle,.....

I have stated before I like when the area teams are all competitive. We have been lucky as well as prepared so far this season. I do not believe we are a championship caliber team right now but they are getting some of their deficiencies worked out. Losing Agnor seemed to me like a galvanizing moment that has caused a uptick in the intensity from all the players.

Here's to hoping a few of your fans realize the time and effort these young men and even coaches put into what they witness in Friday nights. It may seem easy at times when things are going good, but the work put in is the same regardless of the outcome.

Don't get me wrong I don't agree with some of the calls too, but if we hold on to the ball last night I don't think Gap wins that game.

You do not have the speed that last years team had, period. The double wing is 3-4 yards, then line up and do it again. Maintaining possession is critical regardless of the O you run, so that goes to technique or conditions. Big long breakout runs in this O are due to over whelming blocking at the poa or superior speed and agility.

In similar conditions, Luray had one fumble as did we. They also threw three ducks that were intercepted, with one being negated on a horrible roughing call.

My point being, unless they panic and go spread or something completely out of character, there are staple plays that must be EXECUTED by the players. When they can't or don't, this O won't work. You have to stay on schedule and have 3rd and 4 or less.

I have not seen Gap but based on yours and another's recap of the PM game, they are just marginally better than last year. That said, we were in a dog fight last year to win 28-0. Like SD and Wilson, record and the expected outcome does not matter when we play. The county rivalry games are usually very competitive even when the scores do not reflect it.

Trevor oh buddy ! Last year was a fluke , Not going to happen again unless your coaches change their philosophy on how the program is run ! They put all their eggs in one basket last year , threw away the JV team and it just did not work out for them . Now they have to start over . Good luck with those subdivision kids . You just cant beat those mud stompin farm boys ! GO BIG RED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Little confused here TC....looking back at some previous posts I see you picked the Hornets to be in the top three in the Shenandoah. Today you are stating that this year was one "many of us expected" for the mighty green team. So, you expected these "growing pains" yet also predicted to be in the top tier of district.

First time in 6 years they've beat us. Calm down lol

I agree Pride, with all the athleticism we lost we can't afford to get behind the chains, an unfortunately fumbles and penalties(a few questionable ones as well) kept us in 3rd and longs.

This team will be okay if they can stop fumbling the ball away and personally if they stack the box. Only time will tell. We knew coming into this year we wouldn't be blowing people out, that we would have to really fight. Everything just hasn't clicked yet.

They only have 1 district loss. In a game they fumbled the ball away over and over.

Outside of RHS who showed its dominance last night these games will be toss ups.

Wilson will beat Page and Stonewall, I feel ER too but I may change my mind after next week. Luray isn't what we thought they would be.

I believe every game is still winnable for us. Even RHS because for some strange reason even in our worst years we play them close. I think RHS goes undefeated honestly though

Outside of RHS personally the Shenandoah is very weak this year

I truly believe the Little League team at RHS could give Fort varsity a good game !

It did, but as I said it was against Fort. They also lost fumbles to Fort. Wilsons offense has shown improvement but they keep killing drives by fumbling the ball away.

Technically yes Wilson Memorial could, do I believe they will? No. Stop reaching to get a reaction.

If they make some defensive adjustments I wouldn't rule out 6-4 but I believe 5-5 is more likely. If they continue to fumble the ball away against Luray this Friday then I will adjust it to 3-7

They have a back that WILL be heard from when they learn to block. He is a Fr and has tons of potential. Other players have been moved around to better suite what they are trying to do. I shouldn't be defending TC but on paper I would have thought an even 2-2 was likely to start the their season.

I think we have all said we told him so but to his credit, he is the one person that supports the team even in their current state. I know he does not need or even want someone from RHS taking up the fight for him, but having meet him and having some decent conversations outside of the Preps board he is a good person that is passionate about his team. I think this season may open his eyes to the difference between our alleged "most hated fanbase in the county" and his.

Just my opinion but there is no need for me to pile on and add salt to a wound from someone that at least didn't disappear when things didn't go well.

I still don't like you guys! Lol Fortunately for me the school I dislike the most is also the school who's posters I have the best conversations with outside of preps. i agree with a lot of you guys until Friday's show up!

We did move some people around and that has helped the offense. When you were there you saw how we just couldn't move the ball at all. Now we can move it we just keep turning it over and getting penalties, which unfortunately is part of being a young inexperienced team.

All in good fun Trevor ! We love ya man ! Your team on the other hand , not so much !

Man I tell you nobody is more fun than Riverheads and Wilson fans. You guys are what every rivalry should be, wanna knock em down when they on top and kick em when they down. I love you guys back and forth post and replies. Keep the rivalry heated lol! Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.

Here an interesting note, my stepson plays for Wilsons Senior team (LL). So I have divided loyalty right now. I told him this would be the only day I would ever root for a green team against my Gladiators. And Trevor the seniors have already lost twice to Draft in very close games. #RollPride

I've only seen one regular season game so far, making this my lowest percentage of Wilson games since probably 1975 (misguided family members who allow their kids to attend other schools, what you can you say). I hope to be there Friday night and hope to see some of the good things I saw in the second half of the Lee game.

Trevor-
Three major differences in this years team from last-
1.) No where near the speed at every position.
2.) Too many individual players only playing for themselves.
3.) You could see the writing on the wall with the O-line, watching this group at the JV level. Huge difference in the lineman skill level from the past 4 years to now. Inept line, slow backfield = you might get your 3 yards a play, wouldn't count on it though. Really missing the 50+ yard quick hits.

On the bright side, these kids do know how to play football and compete! Some of these seniors need to become leaders in a positive manner and get this thing rolling before it's too late!

GO HORNETS!

Hornetstock, the double wing does not need 50yd hits on a regular basis to be successful. I agree about the line and overall team speed though. Your defensive backfield is a good bit slower than last year which allows some edge plays that didn't happen with that team. A lot of good young players but #3 is going to get tired of getting hit at the exchange very soon. There is an upside to this all, those players that needed to be working in blowouts last year are getting their opportunity right now. It's a little painful but will benefit towards the end of this season I it next year. I am not hating as I have watched Wilson as much as RHS this year.

Agreed! The 50 yard hit is not needed but it sure is nice. How many points do you think will be on the scoreboard getting 3 yards a pop? Look at the Red Team, how many
scores of 25,30, 40+ do they get a game? I would say at least 3 a game, usually more! Regardless, it all boils down to the O-line and a fullback quick enough to kick the end out. I do agree with you on the blowouts from last year, we could of gave this years crew many more game minutes which would of been all value toward this year. Going forward this week is a toss-up, not sure we can put enough points on the board at Draft (I would not be surprised if Draft brings the whipping boards to this
one as I am sure last years beating is fresh in their mind and Assistant Coach Cash will be the
first to remind them,if not)
as well as East Rock. Page and Stonewall we should get the "W".
the Riverheads game might just get down right ugly.

We have had our fair share of breakaway runs but adjusting from Logan Moore (IMO the best back in this area in the past 10yrs)a few years ago, to the more methodical approach we take now was a big jump. The group we have now are showing signs of being special too, so some of this is system related I think.

I am going to say this for the 3rd time, the Fr #3 is a breakout waiting to happen. There is talent but to your point, the blocking has been average at best.

Friday will tell me more based on the game at the Hive and our Hay Field. Until the season is over we all have high expectations, hopes, and dreams.

Personally, Savant Swift is the best back from this area in the last 10 years. I believe his results at the next level are proof.

Logan Moore was a special one that's for sure. He had some wheels.
Dae'Quan Scott from Lee is in the conversation as well but technically he was a QB. Successful career for JMU.

An Pickle Knuckols. Boy had tree trunks for legs

Trevor it's close, Swift was good but I would take Moore any day. Look at game film for both. Logan got screwed at William And Mary or you would be seeing him. Not sure about numbers but I am pretty sure over that time period Moore had more touchdowns and yards and significantly less carries. His JR and SR year he was sitting most of the 3rd and all of the 4th quarters. Pickle was a beast but not in the conversation for best in the area. Scott had wheels for sure but would you trust him with the rock with the game on the line? It's all opinion but there is not an argument that would convince me any of the ones you mentioned are better than Moore.

I thought Connery Swift was a better player than Savant Swift. I would add Richard Long from Stonewall to the list of great backs in our area for the last 10 years

Dae'quan could do the most with the football in his hand of anybody listed IMO, and I would trust him more than Moore with the game on the line. He could pass, catch, or run, which we got to see during his JMU career. If the game is on the line and I need 3 yards I'm giving the ball to Pickle or Richard Long. If I need an athlete to make something happen, I'm giving the ball to Scott, Swift, or Moore in that order. These backs listed played in very different styles of offenses--DaeQuan spread, Moore wing t, Pickle option/I form, richard long power (i believe).

Rajah Jenkins was another Lee back in the last 10 years that could be thrown in the discussion. Also, Javon Chisley was a running back who was put at QB who racked up some yards.

I liked Jordan Jack from RHS, and those backs Stuarts Draft had in 07 i think it was, when they beat Lee in playoffs

To add a couple valley district people I had forgotten about initially: Alex Owah & Michael Holmes from Harrisonburg, and Ricky Suggs (I think) from Spotswood. Those 3 were all very good as well.

I meant Connery! I was talking and typing. Connery I think is the best back I've seen from around here in 10-15 years.
That makes more sense lol.. Connery was a special player and I think he can definitely make a case for one of the better backs in the past 10-15 years. All of the backs we mentioned could make a case, really. It's all opinion, and they all had great numbers and bunches of accolades.

I would also argue that DaeQuan played better competition during his high school career than the others, but I suppose that's a different discussion

Who would be your top 3 Riverheads backs since their first championship? I'd have Andrew Hemp, Logan Moore, then probably Jordan Jack, what about you?
