Dinwiddie v P'Burg

Petersburg has some nice talent. Their qb has a strong arm and the receivers are very fast. The defensive backs are sound and the edge lbs cut off runs from the backside fairly well. With the exception of the QB the running game was non existent, but that could have been the Dinwiddie defense. I respect Coach Scott for sticking with this program. If he had more depth the Wave could make some noise. Will always root for those kids.

I agree wholeheartedly about Coach Scott. He does a fantastic job keeping that program as successful as it is.

I was proud to see our former long time assistant coach, Coach Coles, (now with Petersburg), embracing the Dinwiddie kids with genuine affection.

The grandfather of one of Dinwiddie’s linemen was at the game last night. It’s the first game in Petersburg that he has been to since he was a player for Petersburg in the 60’s. Of course, he played at Historic Cameron Field in his day. He mentioned how nice the stadium was last night. I laughed, and told him he should have seen it before the recent renovations. The old field was so dusty, hard, and lumpy, that most practice fields were 10 times better. And so many lights were usually out that the east end of the field was so dark you would lose track of the ball when it was in the air.

New turf, and repairs to the lights have made for a really nice facility. And we understand that even more upgrades are in the works.

I know Petersburg has a lot of issues. But once way to start fixing those issues is investing in their. sports programs. I always felt like single school counties and cities should have an easier time making that happen vs schools who have to split resources across schools.

Absolutely.

It’s so vitally important to educate those that make the decisions about investing in athletics, about the positive affects of kids participating in athletics. There are so many more lessons that can be taught through athletics that basically can’t be taught any other way in public schools. You may not be able to make a kid behave in class or be accountable for his behavior in the hallways these days, but put him on a football team and let him screw up and see how well that goes.

Absolutely true. But, Hopewell government has become so dysfunctional that I’m not holding my breath for that one.
