Records: Hanover 0-0 Dinwiddie 1-0

On Friday night the Dinwiddie Generals travel to Hanover to face a well respected, physical Hawks team led by quarterback Clay Cheatham.

Hanover has beaten Dinwiddie in the last three meetings. The latest occurring in the second round of the 2015 playoffs. The Hawks hold a 4-2 overall record against the Generals. 1-0 in the regular season.

Dinwiddie's defense led by Fields, Clayton and Pope have improved tremendously in the offseason, but must prove they can stop the vaunted Hanover running game.

Early previews revealed Hanover had a trio of top line of receivers and would step up the passing game this season; however, Cheatham has reportedly (please correct me if i am wrong) lost two of his prime targets. According to Twitter Shaffner had surgery this week (injury unknown)and Chenault is out with a broken collar bone (if this is true I wish these two fine men a speedy recovery).

Even with these two alleged key losses expect Hanover to pound the ball and throw it when least expected.

Dinwiddie defeated James Monroe 48-10 by establishing their own running game, defending the run, and playing turnover free football.

Look for Bryce Witt to utilze his receivers speed to stretch the field. The key to the Generals offensive sucess will be pass protection and getting a hat on Hanovers MLB. Look for Hanover to blitz often.

Special teams could also play a factor as both teams kickers are sound. Dinwiddie and Hanover must cover kickoffs as each team is very effective when given a short field.

Many believe this will be a high scoring affair, but I look for a hard fought, low scoring, nail biter. If Cheatham repeats his efforts from the last two meetings Dinwiddie will struggle. If Dinwiddie's has success running the ball Witt and his bevy of reveivers will present problems for the Hawks.

Best of luck to both teams. These teams respect each other; however, due to consistent playoff run-ins this game has become quite a rivalry. Might not want to miss this one.
