Do they have any effect on seeding for region tournaments ? or are they just played as a fund raiser for districts ?

Can't speak for any others, but the Shenandoah tournament will be played strictly for entertainment purposes. My understanding, and I think everyone's is that the regular season point standings will determine who goes where in the regionals. All nine of our teams are in Region B, with 7 of them being Group 2, and only Riverheads and Stonewall being Group 1.

It's funny, I thought the same thing that the district tournament meant nothing. The East Rock folks said the district tourney does have meaning. They said Lee gets an auto advance to the region because they finished first. The next 3 have to play there way in thru the district tournament. Should be easier than this to find this out for certain!

Last season the Lee athletic site showed the power points total. This season in the standings section none of the 2A teams show points, just the two 1A teams. Last season the points were used for the conference tournament seedings.

My guess is that this season the 1A regional will use points, while the 2A will use district seeding. I assume Lee will be the #1 seed for the Shenandoah if they win tonight and clinch the regular season district title. Lee will play the #4 seed from the Bull Run. #2 S vs #3 BR, #3 S vs #2 BR, and #4 S vs #1 BR in the quarterfinals. I would think that the Shenandoah #1 would be on the same side of the bracket as the #2 BR, and if both win they would meet in the semis. Not sure though.

This is from the admin at East Rock.

Region B Seeding priorities

1. Regular season district champ
2. Tournament champ
3. Tournament Runner up
4. Regular season district runner up
5. Regular season 3rd place
6. Tournament semifinalist
7. Regular season 4th place
8. Regular season 5th place
9. Regular season 6th place
10. Regular season 7th place

I heard that the Bull Run tourney is all that matters this year. The regular season was only for tourney seeding. Hope that is incorrect but heard it from a good source.

Piedmont District is a money grab. It only matters to the 3A schools for regional seeding. The other teams (6A, 5A, 2 4A, and a 2A team) get no help in regional seeding from the tourney, their seeding was determined by the regular season.

Tri rivers is Sat10, Monday 12, tuesday 13.... has no effect on regional seedings either......Should be great tournament though..

JRD tournament has nothing to do with seedings in Region A. Determined by regular season points system. Just a money maker for the district.

The M7 will use the tournament as a factor but regular season seeding carries more weight IIRC. @swva_havok_fan can probably fill in the details.

I've heard so many things this year, that I am about resigned to just wait and see the regional brackets, and what it is is what it is. Lol

Latest I have heard is that district regular season champs get automatic entry into the region tournament. Other than that, I have no idea.

Ridgeview boys will be one and done in the M7 tournament anyway, so if it weren't for the girls, I would about be beyond caring anyway. Still mad as hell about losing to Lee High Saturday. Totally unacceptable. Lol

I just hope the girls get the job done tonight against Wise Central and don't throw it all away tomorrow night at Gate City and either Abingdon or Union or both of them beats Central later in the week. Would be nice to have that automatic region bid and face the lowest seed out of the SWD. :)

Losing to Lee is super ugly. But honestly RV isn't much better than they are, both teams bout same level. There's three levels in M7 lol, GCs level state contenders, then UHS/CHS/JBHS, good teams capable of winning couple Region D games but not real contenders, then AHS/LHS/RHS.

But if any team should be embarrassed it's Abingdon, the Falcons came in as a 3A big school and have gotten pushed around in football and basketball. They'll get revenge in the spring tho when baseball rolls around.

I am also just waiting for Regional tournaments. I just hope they play them in good venues, not some cracker box high school gym. Same goes for state tournament.

HR, going to help you to get to complaining early. Was told last night that in region C that the 1st 2 rounds will be played at the higher seeds home court. So for instance using Martinsville as the example they are the 2 seed. Get a bye in the first round and will play the 7-10 winner at the Dog House in the 2nd round. Let's say it plays out that DR the #3 seed wins then Mavahi-DR would probably be played at Magna Vista. Then whoever wins that game would play the championship at the Dedmon Cemter at Radford U
