I am already Jonesing over the thought of no more High School Football until next August!

Who'd you like to see matched up for an opening, preseason kick-off classic game that could have huge fan attendance and get picked up by National TV coverage?

Ocean Lakes vs Oscar Smith week 3 lol so they can get all the preseason stuff out the way and cramps these 2 teams best players were all Juniors both are gonna be favorites win South and maybe state with the amount of starters coming back both squads

Rematch of the 6A finals would be great next fall but this year a 6A vs 5A champions game would be great too!

My vote is for Westfield-Highland Springs. I don't know what Westfield returns, but HS has got to be considered a threat to repeat as state champs.

Westfield loses a lot on both lines and in the secondary. Coming back will be a MLB (Petrillo), TE (Cockrill), PK/Punter (Delaney, one of the best in the country), 2 WR (Frimpong and Eckert) and the QB (Johnson) who took over in the playoffs. They also have a few subs (2xCB, 1 DL and 1 OL) that got considerable playing time. The JV defense was quite good so that shows some promise (18 PA in 8 games) but we all know that JV success does not necessarily translate to success on varsity. There is also a FR RB (Asante) who I believe will get a lot of time at RB next year. They will certainly be in the mix again next year.

I watched the state championship on TV while listening to Salem. was very impressed with Westfield. Huge and talented.

Westfield was just a strong team across the board. I think they would have defeated Highland Springs this year in that hypothetical match-up.

I would rather see the top teams in Virginia play against schools from other states on TV. I can wait until the playoffs to see the big statewide match-ups.

It certainly sounds like the cupboard isn't going to be exactly bare. Let's hope we can all hunker down and survive the next eight months without high school ball. I wanted to go to the Big River game, and squeak in one last one, but too many "honey dos" on the list. She has been patient we me for the last five months, so time to pay the fiddler. You guys have a great Christmas and a terrific New Year.
