Game Recap Dukes Defeat Menchville 6-1

Brett Lindsay threw four innings in relief while allowing one run as Gloucester defeated Menchville 6-1. Lindsay relieved starter pitcher Cody Shiflett and allow three hits in four innings. The Dukes took advantage of a few Menchville errors scoring four unearned runs.

Monarch starting pitcher Riley Sweeney was cruising tossing three perfect innings to start the game but he ran into trouble in the 4th inning. Lindsay led off the inning with a single then ending up on 3rd base after a single by Carter Miller and a walk by Jason Wood loaded the bases. Trey Fortner gave the Dukes a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly. He added two hits and a run scored.

The Dukes extended the lead to 3-0 in the 5th inning. Miller drove in two runs with an infield single that ended up in the outfield. Gloucester loaded the bases in the 6th inning and added two runs via walks with the bases loaded and a single by Reese Oden.

Menchville had several chances to put runs on the board but they left 11 runners on bases. They outhit the Dukes seven to five. The Monarchs lone run came on an RBI single by Ryan Webster who finished with two hits. Leadoff batter Mason McCallum and cleanup hitter Tyler Knapp each added two hits.
