I’ll play the game. The only way EV wins is if the take a page out of Salem and Lafayette playbook. They have to slow the game down and take advantage of every possession. I think EV plays into Din hands, spread, uptempo that’s the generals bread and butter. The only teams to slow the generals down have been teams that can grind the clock and play absolutely perfect. It was a great state title game last year because the qb was out of his mind great. If he doesn’t play so perfectly were talkig about the generals going back to back. My real concern is what happens to EV if the generals start fast as they are known to do. A quick 7 then a 3 and out 7 more and all of sudden down 14-0 with half the 1st quarter left, then what. “Everyone has a plan until they are punched in the mouth”. I have a real tough time understanding how good EV can be with who they play (not their fault). Dinwiddie by 21-28 maybe running clock if they play great. I’m a homer but that’s my feelings and they have been wrong before but this generals team is possibly the best to take the field for the Navy Nation and that’s saying a lot.

I am not being sarcastic here. Who was the toughest defense EV had faced this year? I don't know much about the team's in that area, all I know from what I read on here. I know EV is good and shouldn't be taken lightly.

I am not upset. Quite frankly I am very relaxed. Again thanks for the information 86CulpGrad. If you read your comment closely it appears sarcastic. If you would have said as you described I would not have questioned you. My apologies. I hope you have a punter, because I can promise you are not playing a daisy this week. Dinwiddie will get stops! Will Dinwiddie win? I can't say that for sure. As a fan I believe in the boys in navy, but will take nothing for granted. EVcyc, you seem to like smack talk, so I will oblige you win this one fact. I hope you enjoy. When Dinwiddie is unbeaten going into the playoffs and has home field advantage we don't lose. If you think for a minute or even a second EV is going to waltz into Dinwiddie and run rough shot all over on the Generals defense you are going to be disappointed. I respect EV, but I don't fear them. Better hope the Cyclones can put up more than 21 points on us, because if you don't its good night! Please don't use last game as an example either. Huguenot scored 14 points against our JV players and that's not a joke. See you guys on Friday. Good luck and be safe.

I don't think any were what you would call "tough defenses" this year for them. They were up by 35+ before half in every game except 2 (Brentsville was 28-0 at half, last week PH was 28-6 at half). If you saw the game last week, they could have easily been up by more at the half simply by running it every play. They mixed in other plays I guess just to practice. I think the only way to slightly compare these 2 teams is to look at the Lafayette games last year. EV didn't have a dynamic player at the QB position which caused limitations, especially against really good teams. Lafayette played Dinwiddie tough. I'm assuming Dinwiddie is as good as last year. They are the favorite and should be until someone proves otherwise.

Dinwiddie is and should be the favorite. I don't think anyone is denying that. How the heck did Huge-Nut hold the Generals scoreless in the 2nd qtr. last week?

I personally don't like to compare last year's team to this year's. Last year's quarterback was phenomenal, this year Peety is just a special breed. We played without Tyree last year after he suffered a season ending injury against Dale. So I guess you are saying that you guys do have a dynamic quarterback this year? We have an excellent kicker and that may just be the deciding factor in this game. I don't talk smack due to the fact that I have the utmost respect for @BleedingNavy and @DinwiddieProud and us Generals fans are pretty humble. I just don't see EV having a ton of success against our defense. The atmosphere in Navy Nation can be a little intimidating as well. How well does EV travel? Good luck and safe travels to all

We ran the ball a ton last week (4-7 passing) and ate up the clock. I cant remember exactly, but we only had two posessions that ended up deep in Huguenot territory. I think on one we had a muffed a snap and turned it over on downs and the last drive the clock ran out on us at the five. Should have taken the three points on both posessions. Lesson learned.

EV will travel well. Don't know your stadium but my guess is your visiting side will be mostly full even for a 2.5 hour drive on a Friday night. Yes, the QB this year is dynamic. He has the ability to scramble and run unlike the QB last year. I don't know the exact stats, but I'm gonna say the QB last year had about 10 int's.....mostly against the quality teams they played. The Generals are the clear #1 seed and the favorite.

IDK.....a lot of coaches with these high-powered offences just plain don't care about FG's. They go for it most every time as long as they are not inside their own 40.

We are 7/8 this season fg's. The only miss was the block at Salem when we only had 10 men on the field. The edge guy came in unblocked. Lol.

I see your kicker is good too. Made 75 pats. Both teams are well rounded and talented. Can we just play it tonight. Took off 1/2 day from work on Friday. Knew I would be useless after lunch. This is what high school football is all about. Bad part about it is the winner has to face another nasty foe next week.

Is anyone down that way broadcasting this game on the radio?

A couple things, I don't smack talk. I'm pretty sure you will find no posts by me pumping EV up or knocking Widdie down.. The punter comment was about as far as I went and that was obvious sarcasm. I am provoking, sure, but I like to call it thought provoking :) I challenge with facts. Let's take Navylifes post. Obvious homer, which is cool. But like everyone else, it's what EV has to do to slow down Widdie or what EV has to hope for etc. I get that, we don't have street cred. No doubt though Widdie coaches are asking those same questions about EV. But (and I have watched it many times) what Salem did in game 3 was anything but perfect. How many times did they turn the ball over and there they were on the cusp of a win. I only say that because we continue to fantasize about the lore of Dinwiddie. I recognize we are the underdog, but not like most people think. Did he say running clock? That's smack talk right? I am also hopeful we score at least 21 points. Real question EV has been asked about playing a defense like Widdies, but I wonder have they seen an offense like ours? I didn't see one on film. I saw some teams with some of it, but no teams with all of it. I think both teams will have their hands full. Nobody's mentioned it, but coaching will matter in this game...

I am also very aware of the difficulty of beating them at their place..

To pigy back on this... I dn't care what a team did to a bad team. What did they do when they played a good team... Dinwiddie's record speaks for itself.

A wise man might say, it is better to know your enemy and how they might behave in battle vs not knowing. The assumption keeps being made that EV will falter when tested. What if they Fly, what if they Fly..:):Do_O

Ok I threw up in my own mouth a little.

Hahahaha. OK, what is Dinwiddie's usual strategy on the coin flip? Take the ball or defer to the 2nd half? I THINK EV usually defers.

Some valid points EVcyc. I did not say you talked smack. I was referring to your post
On the salem gw thread about liking the smack talking.

You do use sarcasm well and its appreciated for the most part. We just need to get this game on. These teams are a microcosm (did i spell that right) of one another, so there will be few surprises.

Although, they are not a sure thing I am big on trends. Since realignment Dinwiddie is 10-0 at home in the playoffs and EV is 0-4 on the road in the playoffs.

Whoever, loses this and the other b semi game will be disappointed, but this has been one heck of a season for this region. I remember in 2013, we didnt get any respect from the 4a posters on this board, so I get it.
I remember when we beat LT and Heritage NN and people still said Sherando would ram it down our throats.

Your team has been a consistent winner. All they need to do now is take the next step. Enough talk lets just do this.

Funny you bring up 2013, The year Dinwiddie won it all right. Well, that summer before that year (may have been the summer after), I am almost positive that we beat Dinwiddie in a 7-7 tourny at UVA. So technically we are 1-0 on them right now. I'm counting it.

Good news sports fans. My eye in the sky just reported OCboy will be making the trip to Dinwiddie on Friday. Drive safe sir and I look forward to meeting you.

I have been trying to get my hands on as much video as possible, but have to admit EV keeps a tight reign on things. One area of importance that has not been discussed is special teams play. Obviously both teams have sound kick returning games which could and will likely play a major role in this game. I tend to believe there will be defensive stops, so punting will also be a factor. Dinwiddie's punter Todd Anspach is an above average high school punter and gets good hang time. Punt team coverage for the Generals is usually sound, so I am sure we will not take too many chances and play the field position game. Anspach is also our kicker and he is has extremely consistent on xp's and fg's. He kicks about 50% of his kickoffs into the end zone, so hopefully he can eliminate the very dangerous EV return game after any scores.

Anybody have any details about EV's special teams. Heck none of us are coaches on here, so spread the news. By the way, if you have any stats or know how i can access EV's stats please let me know. I am preparing my media packet and would love to give the Cyclone players some coverage if possible. Already have the official roster.
As of right now I will be checking out of South Carolina around 10 am to get back up that way. Missed the entire season and will be only the second time catching EV in person. Hopefully things will cooperate on the road with traffic.

That is a great fact about the home and away record, has to be considered for sure. There is a monkey on our back..

I don't think anyone even begins to think EV will falter when challenged. Zero possibility of that. They may get beaten by a better team, by I don't call that faltering. Same with Dinwiddie, we may lose, but it will be because EV was the better team. Weak, underprepared teams falter, not two heavyweights like EV and Dinwiddie. (Patrick Henry is a good example of a team faltering. Seven personal fouls!)

I noticed big #50 moved from Defense to Offense. Was that due to injuries and need or still finding the right mix?

I wonder what the stats are for all home teams in the playoffs over the past several years. It has to be heavily in their favor. Tough to win on the road in the playoffs.

That was just in one game against Hopewell. He occasionally goes in at offensive tackle to give someone a break. Might see him this week?????

You're right about that....PH found out early it wasn't going to be a game and they didn't deal with it well. If you go back and look at that film you will see many plays where a PH player got planted into the ground....clean hits/blocks. They didn't like that at all.

DP, lets get him a state police escort once he hits virginia. OCboy, if you are traveling north on 95 take route 40 at Stony Creek. The gps will tell you to take the Carson exit, but the road is closed.

Can you put a realistic number on how many fans will make the trip? Just curious.

Heck I don't know. I do know there is a spirit bus coming. Last year at Lafayette, EV had as many fans on their side as the home team. They will be well represented.

I hope so. Your kids, our kids, all kids, deserve the support. Nothing makes me sadder than to look across the field, home or away, and see a tiny crowd. And man, have I seen some tiny crowds. 54 on their side, at Petersburg's homecoming, (during the playing of the National Anthem), a few years ago. Shameful.

Good points but what happens if EV does that to Dinwiddie scores quick then gets a turnover then takes a kick off or punt return back. How does dinwiddie respond to that. You can flip it both ways.

Agree about game 3 but that is not what I was talking about, that was a 4 hr bus ride, playing without our best player and game 3 still figuring out this team. I was referring to last seasons Salem team that was perfect in the final game.

Unlike most of the Dinwiddie posters here I do prefer a little smack talk as long as it is not derogatory to the team or a individual. So that is why I started the post by saying Ill play.

Good points but what happens if EV does that to Dinwiddie scores quick then gets a turnover then takes a kick off or punt return back. How does dinwiddie respond to that. You can flip it both ways.

You can flip it anyway you want the Generals have shown they will respond and not go into a shell and fold. Last yrs Dale game, Lake Taylor, Salem both times. Yea Yea last year is over, but a lot of leadership from last season is back and reaping rewards of their 24 months of work. So I have no doubt that if this team trips it will regain balance and get back into a game ( I do not see this though).
