Salem played hard. It was a great game. Nothing to hold the heads down about. Salem brought a nice crowd too. @mike salem great to see you again!Glass - 35 Salem - 21 Final
Tough one for the Spartans. They were about to force Glass to punt down 7 with 2:20 left and a defensive tackle that isn't even supposed to be rushing on the play jumps offsides to give Glass a first down. Glass later goes for it on 4th and 1 and converts on a run up the middle against two deep safeties and then then scores with no time left for the final margin.
Glass is a REALLY good football team and they lined up and ran right at Salem but also had some nice passing plays as well and very good play calling. They had a couple of well-scouted calls on WR quick screens against Salem's blitz they bring on many third downs and one of them went for a TD. They are also extremely good on defense at all levels. Glass was the better team and completely deserved to win.
Disregard this part of the post if you don't want to see my venting: I am BEYOND frustrated as hell that Salem's 2nd best player, LB/TE Jaelyn Allen had to miss this game completely due to ineptitude by last week's officiating crew and the VHSL being "too busy on a short week" to look at the appeal Salem made. On this appeal the officials acknowledged that they made a mistake and shouldn't have even thrown him out of game last week. It's absolutely ridiculous that a great kid had to miss this amazing game and a chance to make a huge difference. This should NEVER happen and it's a major disgrace for last week's officials and the VHSL. Also, with Peyton Lewis already not playing defense due to injury it made them very vulnerable against the run. The good news is the backup LBs played extremely hard and I can't fault their effort at all. They battled all game long.
Really fun, psychical game and I enjoyed being in City Stadium for the first time. Good luck to EC Glass moving forward... represent D well and go win it all!
Congratulations to Glass on a well played game! Hats off to them and good luck next week against KR. Line play was the difference in the game. Glass had a good OL. Thanks Mike! Love the way y’all support your boys! Hopefully Lynchburg can get back to that!Congratulations to Glass on a well played game! Hats off to them and good luck next week against KR. Line play was the difference in the game. Glass had a good OL. Great to see you @lyhsports
Didn't know the whole story. Amazing. That ineptitude really hurt Salem. Would it have made a difference, we will never know. Just like Martindale and Lewis unable to play against Broad Run in semifinals last year----Would it have made a differenceGlass - 35 Salem - 21 Final

Yeah pretty bad luck in the last two final games of the year. Covid got Martindale and Moyer and a Lewis injury right before Broad Run last year and then the bs with Allen this year. It's really unfortunate to have this happen in really closely matched games.Didn't know the whole story. Amazing. That ineptitude really hurt Salem. Would it have made a difference, we will never know. Just like Martindale and Lewis unable to play against Broad Run in semifinals last year----Would it have made a difference
We will never know. You got to be good, you got to be lucky, and in Allen's case you got to hope you don't get screwed.
