Essex 0 Rapp 0 end of 1st

Re: essex 21 Rapp 7 Final

Essex's offense SUCKED tonight. Just looked flat. Play calling wont that much better. I know we don't have the WR core like we had the last 2 years but the WRs we have are not bad...add a few more passing plays. Rappahannock's turnovers pretty much gave the win to my boys. Cant play like you did tonight and expect to keep moving on in the playoffs. If so, Colonial Beach WILL end your season next week. Great job by Essex's defense for keeping Rappahannock in check. Most of the game was a defensive battle between both teams. Good season for Rappahannock.

great game, well fought by both sides

1st off, hats off to Rappahannock, they came to play. It was 0-0 until last two minutes of the 1st half and 7-7 last two minutes of the third. Two weeks ago final was 48-14 Essex, but was full of Rapp turnovers etc.

1st half time of possession seemed almost completely equal (1st downs as well). Essex threw like 4 or so offensive schemes at Rapp and they held strong (great d line play by Rapp.) Just a little over a min left in 2nd q, the hike sailed over the Rapp QB and recovered by Essex's Dameon Brooks at the 2. Malik Martin scored a bit later. Backbreaker for Rapp.

Rapp tied it up in the 3rd and it was 7-7 until less than two min in 3rd when Essex's Sterling Hammond had a good run and as was being tackled, handed ball off to QB Broaddus who sprinted down like 50 to 60 yards down the field for the wild, huge score. The crowd finally awoke to that crazy play. Another backbreaker for Rapp. Essex had a big, wild turnover later trying to seal it. Rapp had the long TD but Essex's speedy WR Rasaun Monroe came out of nowhere and stopped the big man. The Trojans eventually got ball back and Broaddus had an insurance TD the end to put it away.

Great game to Rapp, hard fought by both sides. Essex's Ray Ray Newbill had two big pics. One highlight for the crowd was when big man Marquis Lucas (about 300 pound fullback) made a huge run for the 1st down.

Also, very clean game by both sides. Very few penalties by both sides, maybe fewest Essex ones that I've seen in some time.

Great season for Rappahannock and they went down fighting.

Next up, another NND foe Colonial Beach who took care of business down in Surry as expected. Good job to the Beach. Should be another exciting one to battle for the coveted spot in the final four! Better be ready for a throw down.

Re: great game, well fought by both sides

I agree the defense for both teams where good ! For the most part this was a defensive game. I agree with Essex should have maybe threw some more passes down field but the ones he did the receivers couldn't hang on ! I give Rappahonock credit they came to play and stayed in it Byrd is a heck of a back for Rapp ! But congrats to essex on the win now It's time for CB

Heck of a game.....

1st off I want to say great game and congrats to Essex on winning the contest. As for the game Rapp played well enough to win but had some crucial turnovers that sealed their fate. Prob would have been a much different game if it wasn't for the fumble on the recovered on the 3yd line by Essex or if Romeo Jackson was healthy.

Enough about the game.....I been posting on this site for the past 3yrs about how Rapps program is on the come up and I got heckled by many posters. 4 straight winning seasons, 2 straight season in the 2nd round of the playoffs. This year gave Essex and W&L all they could handle, beat a good Sussex team. Sure it's not on par with what Essex has done but a real 180 from what rapp was about 5-10yrs ago. One could only imagine the outcome of some of these games if Rapp didn't lose their starting QB (Pierson) in the 3rd game of the season. I'm sure sum1 will rebuff my statements by saying they have a weak schedule and all I will say to that is oh well. I'm proud of Rapp & its staff

Looking forward to next year, Rapp has the most returning All Conference players in the NND and expectations will be high for Rapp on my behalf. Coach West deserves a lot of credit for putting the program on the right path.

To the seniors (Veney, Jewel, Byrd, Thompson, Brown, Pierson), were gonna miss you and good luck on your future endeavors.

Again good luck to Essex & Colonial Beach as I will be following/rooting for you through out the rest of the playoffs.

Ok, I'm off my soapbox now lol
