Best wishes to the NND teams and KW (plus Tidewater teams) this weekend as they open up the always highly anticipated high school football season! The two big ones, obviously, are 2A power Goochland at 1A Essex and 4A King George at 2A W&L. The Essex game should be a thriller! Also, we have Northumberland at Surry, Rappahannock at Nandua, KW at Madison County, Mathews at Northampton, and CB plays Avalon (Maryland) on Saturday. Speaking of Northampton, Wow, anybody got details on that big win over WP, 42-14? It counted, heard their player Beckett had like over 300 yards rushing and 4 TDs!
Now to my thoughts on this new format...Well, my wife tries hard to teach me if you don't have anything good to say, just don't say anything. Great advice indeed, tried it but in this case I enjoy high school sports too much to let it go.
First off, to the Va Preps guys, y'all are awesome and do great work. We all appreciate you and your efforts to support the games and the student-athletes of our great state of Virginia. However, I am sorry to say that this new format does and will not work to the betterment of VHSL sports, the fans, players, or even this website itself.
I have thought about the reasons why they would reorganized, such as change can sometimes be very refreshing and successful or marketing reasons. Change if not handled well can also be a negative or even disastrous to any organization, be it a business, athletic, or social entity. I know that Preps may want changes to keep up with other Social Media outlets such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and who knows what else is out there. However, I am afraid that this forum change (by regions) will cause Preps to lose WAY more users than it gains. It is way too confusing for the hard core, educated fan, not to mention the more casual one
Also, I thought that the 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A football boards were very healthy last season and before. I usually found plenty of great info and debates. The ones that were not used much were the 5A and 6A football boards. Is that why this change was made? All it will do is cause people to be confused, intimidated to post about different, smaller classifications and/or other sports and then leave this great sports resource.
I would recommend going back to the 6 classifications. If you want to keep the other structural changes to be updated, so be it. We can adjust to that. Tough choices to make, such is life. Best wishes.
Let the football season begin!!!!!
