Ok folks before you say “Tru “ have you lost mind on this one ? Let me explain. Essex has been battling Riverhead I believe more than any team in State on the playoff level.

Casto is a genius of a Coach , but I believe Coach Jones in Essex is just as good . Coach Jones must change up some things offensively to take down BIg Red. You must not continue to show RH Coaches the same thing , Casto and the gang will be prepared to take away your best stuff. Essex must evolve into something different, that different I don’t know what it is but it must happen in Greenville on Saturday , Essex can’t purely put this game on the shoulders of two players , It must be a 4 quarter war on Saturday with blood flowing with everybody you have going all out, having watched Essex, my strategy would be to slow the game down and work the play clock between plays and get this game in the 4th and then open it up with your skill guys . Good luck to both teams and fans bases . This will be good game .

Essex 28- RH 27
“ Tru has all his marbles in place “

Does Essex have the patience for that type of game?
Can they stop RH from running the ball and eating up clock?

So are u coming to see the upset on Saturday, we can meet up like we did before, have u seen ccc run the ball he is a stud stud runner has a chance to break alot of records at rhs, smiley has most of them but he should be in the running for having 2 more years, I think if the game will be that close ccc will have a say so to the outcome going to the red team, GO BIG RED

Same score when King William went in and took down #1 RH. RH missed an extra point late in the game and couldn’t recover the onside kick, I like it! As much as I despise the Essex Trojans I’ll be rooting for you all 🤢. Wow I can’t believe I just typed those words haha. Hopefully it’ll be a great game and not a blowout.

That KW game was a good damn game. I believe that was the only xp that Sam Goodson missed that year. And ironically that was one of my favorite Gladiator teams even though they didn’t win it all.
Was a great game, both crowds were loud and rowdy! Just can’t believe KW lost the following weekend to Nottoway! It was tragic! But that’s how it goes a lot for us KW fans lol

@trutiger16 there have been several that try that strategy, and when they can move the ball generating first downs with scores, it works well.
IMO this fails like most other approaches if
1. You don’t score or flip the field on each
possession
And, 2. Get two 3 and outs a half from your D
And, 3. Hold RH to under 17

However unlike some, I do think it’s possible. I think that Essex will hang tight for the first half. I just feel Riverheads has more depth and that will show in the second half. I don’t look for a big margin though, 35-19 with the separation occurring late.

It’s a long shot to win that way versus you guys , but hey man it’s better than trying to do the usual

I always find the post on these threads interesting to read with folks sharing the different views and opinions. At the end of day, the coaches will call the plays but the boys on the field will determine who wins and who loses. Anything can happen and any team can be beat. For the Gladiators with the team they have this year, anything less than a championship would be a huge disappointment for them. For Essex with everything that has happened during the year they should feel good about themselves for getting this far. My wife and I will be at the game Saturday cheering the Trojans. Safe travels for everyone. Side note: I purchased our tickets online yesterday. I have to say I don’t agree with using your mobile device for tickets.

Good call, he had graduated. But I still believe that was his only EP miss that year though. We have been very fortunate over the years with a fairly consistent kicking game.

Just to clarify about this online ticket business, that is being mandated by the VHSL and it will apply to any and all state-level playoff games. It is certainly not anything being implemented by any one school.

I agree it is a pain because not all phones operate the same way and I could easily see the problem of some folks being at the gate (especially in more rural areas of the state) and not being able to get their phone to work. So it seems to me that it should be an "option" but with tickets still being sold at the gate.

My sources tell me that this process (online sales) will be continuing for state level games even after COVID has passed on by.

I agree with reeces dad, riverheads is gonna pound the ball, thats what they do, Essex does not like a physical smash mouth team, WP proved that even though they lost. Now if Riverheads turns the ball over severL times, now you got a different ball game. But Essex does not run the ball well, they are small up front and Riverheads will control their gaps with their lineman and their LBs will clean up

I saw early this year and i posted back in September , Essex is not a physical team , i watched my Tigers push them up and down the field, but i was told by a Essex supporter up here that was not true. Essex may have changed since then , but i saw what i saw.

They're not big up front with one exception. #58 Roane is a load. He and my boy collided quite a few times and that young man is tough.

We went to that game and saw the same thing you did. Other than #58, Essex line did get pushed around some, and Reece and I both felt like we (WP) could run the ball against them, and that we would have trouble with the deep passes.

Question about these online ticket purchases. Can you order via a computer and print out the ticket? That's what I do when I go watch Richmond Flying Squirrels games.

Nope. You must have the ticket e-mailed to you and then you show them the e-mail on your phone and the ticket is "redeemed" at the gate that way. My concern is that if there are people that have phone troubles and we know there will be, won't that back up the lines at the gate at some of these places that have big crowds?

Essex isn't physical, Essex can't stop the run, Essex can't run...sounds like Sussex, West Point and KQ should have walked away with an easy win with everything Essex can't do
Just saw what I saw , I’m pulling for Essex my friend sorry if the truth hurts

don't get your feelings hurt. All I said is that Essex has trouble stopping the run. They have a lot of really good football players particularly at the skill positions and that served them well against WP in the 1st quarter when they were able to take advantage of our turnovers.

The only way the Red team loses games, your front 7 have to be monsters. If you can be as physical, it is your only shot. If you can hold on Defense then you keep it close enough to have a chance to win. Looking back at the local teams that have played well or beat the Red team in the past, every defense had studs in the front 7. If there is a team that is really strong at those positions, good luck. If not, crown them again.

I truly have no dog in this fight and I have not seen Essex in person. With all due respect to them their front lines better all come locked and loaded. I usually go watch riverheads when I’m not wrapped up with other local schools and I watched them last week. This team is pretty special. Their fronts are tough and their skill guys are legit. Hard to believe ccc is as young as he is. Great acceleration for a back that size. I was also impressed by #4. He’s small but man he plays tough. I’d take kids like him any day to play on my team. Not seeing Essex it’s hard for me to say but I will be surprised if the heads doesn’t take this one running away. Best of luck to both teams and, most importantly, I hope the kids all stay healthy

Wow, so much Essex love here…back to reality. First off comparing Jones and Casto is night and day. Jones does not teach/coach physicality and discipline football; he relies more on athletes making play. Think about his time at Pulaski; every time he played a physical team…got beat, games when he played against an athletic team he had a chance. It just is what it is, this will not be close, stop getting your hopes up, please don’t tell me you think Essex is as good as Lord Botatourt and we all saw what happened there. Congrats to Essex on a nice season but on Monday it’s time to get the round ball out. Riverheads wins by 3+ TDs.

In all fairness one could say Casto has the largest school enrollment in 1A consistently. He has more tools in the tool box than anyone else.

You are right and that’s hard to argue against but they play draft each year( twice this year) and draft has been toward the top of d2 the last few years. They would do fine a level up , but I’m sure it would be a bit more interesting. They are where they are and that will make it even sweeter when someone knocks them off. In the meantime they are a very good football team that is fun to watch. In a world where most schools are trying to turn high school football into a flag football track meet it’s refreshing to see a team that still plays with physicality. If I want to hear the pads crack I go watch the glads. I would feel the exact same if it was another school doing this. I love their style.

Casto would win anywhere I’m sure of it , just as I’m certain Jones would do the same .

And let’s acknowledge that fumbles aren’t usually in a vacuum. Odds are some Essex effort contributed there.
Isn't it amazing how some people aren't able to acknowledge that little basic nugget?
