Essex's Class of '84, Four Sport Star Passes...

Way to young to be leaving us. My heart and sympathy to his wife and children. To have to witness what ALS did to their husband and father was terrible to endure. It's never good, but when a person goes from being a world class athlete to fighting with the difficulties of living with ALS, it is tough to deal with. May God's Grace comfort them.

DinwiddieProud and Essex T, A very good friend of mine passed away several years back with ALS.
She was up in her years, a very proud and proper person, if you will, in her healthy days, and a pillar
Of the comminuty.

To watch her gradually fade from her healthy life, to one that ALS imposed on her was absolutely
Heart wrenching. I fealt her pain, and the pain of the family.

God tells us to place our problems on him, and he will take care of ALL. Life goes on for the living.
God also tells us, to be absent of life on this Earth, is to be present with our Holy Father in Heaven.
If we can do this, then all will be fine in the eyes of God. Faith, My Friends is the answer!

A very wise friend of mine told me that it's called faith for a reason. Because the answers are not always readily available. I know he is right, but I would be lying if I didn't admit to having a lot of unanswered questions.

I remember reading Lou Gerig's biography along about the sixth or seventh grade. Even at that young age, I realized how horrible of a disease ALS is. Like you Chilwar, I've personally known a couple of folks that succumbed to ALS. Before I close my eyes for the last time, I hope I get to see ALS, Alzheimer's, MS, and Cancer defeated. And I will add Parkinson's to that list. I've know several people that were afflicted with this disease. And like these other terrible diseases, it essentially robs the life from the victim as well as the caregivers.

Darryl was laid to rest today in Tennessee. A lot of family and friends made the 10hr drive down to be there. I saw a photo on Facebook of his and Essex old football coach Steve Lewis who made it to the funeral from Florida. Lewis just retired from coaching a couple years ago because of early stages of one of the diseases you listed DinwiddieProud. It was good to at least see a photo of Coach Lewis and to see he traveled so far to be there for his former player.
