This has came up in the 1A thread. Can the VHSL make a hosting school move the game to a neutral site if the field is in a poor condition in the semis?
Yes. There should be a set of people to inspect the field to see if it’s suitable to play on. If not-the host school has to change the venue to somewhere near by which is considered playableThis has came up in the 1A thread. “Supposedly” a non biased crew of peeps that the VHSL has designated or reached out to will be doing this across the state. Not VHSL office personnelWho pray tell does this? VHSL with all of their wisdom? That’s 12 sites across the state that this set of people would have to inspect. Just curious since I had never heard this was the case.

Now do I actually believe they would take a home game from a school???? NO!!!
Correct. I know when Clarke hosted Union in 2015 in the state semis —Clarke brought in an entire set of bleachers that folded up into a tractor trailer bed (nice ones!) for the union sideline ....additional Porta-johns etc. Man was that an electric atmosphere! They have before, for seating and bathrooms. IMO field condition is more of an issue than those, because the others are things for the FANS, while the other is part of the game, you know where the PLAYERS decide it, not any of us fans who dont
The game I saw Saturday was this situation. It was terrible the opposing team was standing in water on the side lines. The running backs would come up after being tackled and would have to clear our their face masks to be able to see. A game that is the magnitude of a semi final game should not be affected by a field much less a kid ruin a knee or ankle over itSadly they do it every year Essex should host. I think it’s ridiculous that it would even be an issue. If the host school is more intent on winning while jeopardizing not only he opposing team but their own players then that says more about them. I would like to think even in the competitive world of HS sports there is still some integrity to be had by these AD’s.
I agree I'm just saying I think they will fight to keep it there no matter what, they have earned home field and as long as the field is safe and playable it should be played there. As they should unless it poses an injury threat to the athletes. As Gunz stated earlier the fans should be secondary unless that were to be an unsafe condition for them as well. I am a firm believer in the home team holding onto that advantage with safety being the only trump card to that. We shall see what happens as there is attention on this already.
