EV defers the opening kickoff. They kick it very deep, Courtland fields it and ends up starting from their 2 yard line. However, on 2nd down, Shyheem Lewis throws a 45 yard deep pass to Burrow and completes it.

Long run by DJ Jones of Courtland for 27 yards, and the Cougars are quickly in the red zone. However, on 4th and 2, they are called for illegal procedure. They still go for it on 4th and 7, and Lewis completes a TD pass to Burrow. 7-0 Courtland with 7 minutes to go in the 1st qtr.
Courtland attempts an onside kick, which fails. EV's Matt Lowry completes an intermediate 3rd down pass to Tyree. Tyree fumbles but it's recovered by EV. The teams trade penalties, then EV scores on a 10 yard TD run by Holmes. Tied at 7 with 4 minutes to go in the 1st.

A busted play for Courtland leads to a 3 and out deep in their own territory. A good bounce on the punt and EV starts at their own 38. EV methodically drives the field inside the 5, but fumbles on 1st down. End of the 1st qtr, tied at 7.
Courtland goes 3 and out again, and a poor punt has EV starting in Cougar territory. Field position has been huge so far. Holmes has a beast of a run on 1st down. An EV illegal block penalty backs them up, but then Lowry has a long run to put them back where they were. The Cyclones then false start, which ends up as a 4th and 1. They call a timeout, and Lowry keeps it for the 1st down. Holmes walks it in from 1 yard out, and it's EV in control, 21-7 with 4:25 left in the half.
Shyheem Lewis keeps it for a long run on 2nd down into Cyclone territory, but it's called back for an offensive facemask. Huge mistake by Courtland. It ends up as a 2nd and 27, and then the Cougars fumble, EV recovers and is in business. But then the Cougar defense stuffs EV, and the Cyclones call a TO with 9 seconds left. They kick a FG on 4th and 11, and it's no good. Cougars dodge a bullet here. It is now halftime, 21-7 EV. Will the Cougars continue to implode again, or will they recover?
EV receives the 2nd half kickoff, and Courtland is called for a 5 yard facemask on the return. EV starts in great field position again, but the Cougar defense finally holds them to a 3 and out. EV burns a very early TO, and a hard count on the punt makes Courtland hop offside on 4th and 4. However, EV is then called for an offensive facemask on the next play on a good run. Sloppy game by both teams. EV completes a screen pass with long YAC near the red zone, but an offensive holding penalty slows them down. Lowry then throws a bad pass on a screen play, and it's a PICK SIX by Shyheem Lewis! However, the PAT is wide right, and the score is now 21-13 EV with 7:27 to go in the 3rd.
Courtland continues to implode, though. They give up a TD return by #10 of EV on the following kickoff, and just like that, it's 28-13 EV with 7:12 to go!
Courtland has a good kickoff return right back for 31 yards, but yet another penalty backs them up on the play. Conservative play calling hurts them again, after starting the game so promising, and they have a 4th and 5. They try to draw EV offsides, then burn a TO, and call a fake punt. EV stuffs it, and ends up in good field position yet again, at the Cougar 47. A huge defensive TFL by Courtland on 1st down, a sack on 2nd down, and it's another INTERCEPTION by the Cougars on 3rd and long! Cougars take over near midfield.

Zin White of Courtland gets going with some hard running, but then the Cougars take to the air, and throw a deep pick right back to EV! The Cyclones have the ball inside their own 10. Crazy 3rd qtr!
And that's the end of the 3rd, the score remains EV 28-13. Time is running out for the Cougars, can they get another stop and respond?
Nope, EV methodically drives the field on the ground, helped by a Courtland facemask. EV false starts on the next play, and then kills themselves with an illegal shift and holding a couple of plays later, both on the same play. However, offsetting unsportsmanlike penalties aid a nice run by Lowry, and EV is in the red zone again. The Cougar defense almost steps up again, but Lowry gets a 1st down run on 3rd and 8. Lowry scores with a 6 yard run the following play, and it's now 35-13. You might as well say it's game over, as the Cougars have killed themselves too much and don't have the offensive firepower or play calling to get back in it. 8:48 remains.

I think this game said more about Courtland than EV. Courtland looked like they were still playing their first game. Very undisciplined team, can't see them getting better enough to win a playoff game. EV wasn't that much better. They should win in round 1, can't see them doing much else unless they have injuries right now.
4b would not be the state final four guaranteed .
I followed your blog tonight , of which I want to say you did a heck of a job . I gathered the same thing , maybe neither team is quite there this year. Did EV not play well? Or do you think it was just the way the two teams are right now? Mediocre? like I said yesterday , Louisa is the dime of the East.
