Franklin vs Essex..Thursda

Haven't seen Franklin, but they seem to have a stud RB who rushed for 384 yards last week against Colonial Beach. In that game, CB actually lead the game at the half which was a surprise to me after having seen CB play. I saw Essex play KW and their defense is lights out. Their defensive line isn't huge, but very fast and the Rich kid who transferred from Westmoreland is tough to block. Strong linebacker play as well, led by UVA commit Kam Robinson. Offensively Essex seems to be more pass happy to this point in the season. They only ran the ball 12 times against KW, which is surprising because they have an all region RB in Dorian Harris and also the other Rich kid who transferred was an all region RB last year as well for Westmoreland. But the qb for Essex, Michael Brimmer, has a strong arm and a strong group of WRS led by Robinson who can take any play the distance. I think Essex is and should be a heavy favorite. But you just never know with teenage kids and Essex can't afford to get caught looking ahead to the big game next week with King and Queen or Franklin could surprise them.

I was surprised they didn't run the ball more against KW. I'd like to see the running game more...giving Kam a break. Last week against KW, offensively it looked like the short pass game was more effective rather then trying to through the ball deep. Get the ball in the receivers hands quick and let them make the plays.

Yeah the deep ball really wasn't working too well last week at all. I'm old school, but if I had Kam, Dorian and the Rich kid plus a couple others, I'd run some sort of wing offense and make it easier to get it into my playmakers hands. Personally, I'm not a fan of a team in high school having their best player play WR. The reason being is it limits their touches and its dependent on the QB being able to get the ball to them and in high school that's often time not very easy. In big games, I'd want my stud getting 25 to 30 touches a game and not 10 to 12.

That particular Rich kid wasn't an all-region RB last year. I believe he was all-region LB. The Redmond kid, who is back at WHS, was the Eagles' primary ball carrier last year.

You're right. I knew he was all Region, but I got my sides of the ball mixed up 🤣🤣. He's still a pretty good offensive player as well though.

Especially when you are getting doubled even triple teamed at times...

A good example of that was the 2A state championship game last year. Two D1 recruits in Claiborne for KW and Bradshaw for Graham. Claiborne at RB got around 30 touches, where as Bradshaw only got maybe a dozen or 15 max from his WR position. That's at least twice as many touches that Claiborne got, just from being in the backfield instead of at WR.
