Douglas Freeman continued its hot start to the season, remaining undefeated with an 8-1 victory over the Benedictine Cadets at Freeman Tuesday afternoon. Rebels starter Mitchell Crowder ran into trouble early after a couple of first-inning walks, but a force at home followed by a home-to-first double play allowed the Rebels get out of the inning unscathed. A combination of solid pitching, fine defensive plays like those I just mentioned, and some baserunning miscues by the Cadets minimized the Benedictine scoring to a single run. Freeman's Jack Gerstenmaier (1-for-3, 2 RBI, 3 SB) and Hayden Lee (3-for-4) each had nice days at the plate, while Travis Stackow added a two-run double that put the game out of reach. Freeman improved to 7-0 while Benedictine fell to 6-5 after its second loss in as many days to a Top Ten team.
