The G.W. Eagles return to Danville this Friday, looking for their seventh win in a row and looking to remain unbeaten in the Piedmont District. They’ll face long-time rivals Halifax County.

Chuck Vipperman will man the play-by-play mike for his 40th GW/Halifax game! (We've played them more than once in a season five times). Jim Mccauley provides the color and Bradley Fussell provides the view from the sidelines.

Also this week, CVip Media Solutions is proud to announce we will carry halftime ceremonies live on our stream. We are honoring the undefeated 1982 state champions...which includes our own Jimbo!

G.W. Football presented by Danville Toyota takes the air at 6:30pm with the Showcase Magazine pre-game show.

I live for the day that this is one of the biggest rivalries/competitive games in the state. Never will forget 2005 (I was in 6th grade) when the Danville Register and Bee & DPS promoted that undefeated Halifax at GW game all week. Halifax beat GW for the first time in my lifetime in front of probably 3,000 fans in Danville. Halifax was one of the first Spread teams that came to our area. The next year we played in South Boston and had to take a shuttle from the high school down to the middle school cause it was so many people.

Thanks for the memories @Chuck Vipperman (GW)! I’ve posted your game pages of the best games in this series if anyone wants a trip down memory lane.

1.) 2002 in SoBo (Blue Comets had former Hampton Pirate/Dallas Cowboy Alonzo Coleman at RB)

2.) 2005 in Danville. Blue Comets beat GW for the first time in Danville since the Barry Word days in the 80s. Halifax won the WVD Championship but lost to Ponax the next week.

3. 2006 in SoBo. GW gets revenge in front of a sellout crowd. GW wins the WVD title but both teams went on to the playoffs that year. GW loses to Woodbridge, Hali loses to Forge.

4.) 2007 in Danville. The 🐐 David Wilson and Tahron Goodes ran for a combined 231 on less than 20 carries with 4 TDs. Halifax was highly regarded coming into the season with a D1 QB (Rodale Pippen) and one of the best LBs in the state (Allen Stephens) that went on to play at Virginia Tech and Morgan State.
That GW team was loaded with over 10 D1 players.

5. Last but not least. 2008 AKA the David Wilson Show. I’ll just let you read and see…

That 2008 game was WACKY! 1,111 combined yards.

Also, I can now safely reveal, I was STILL suffering from a massive hangover, having attended the Virginia Tech/Boston College game the night before.

I'm not that young any more. :)
