Galax @ Rural Retreat

The game will be a good game. I honestly don't think CHS would of beat Galax if try hadn't lost their 3000 yard back in the playoffs. But I agree it will be a good game. Although Galax is a different animal this year. They can hurt you do many different ways and their starting two tailback have seen very limited action this year and they are still running the ball at will on people.

The game tonight wasn’t much of a game really. Galax is gonna be tough for anybody they face this year. The passing game was quite impressive. I say that knowing RR is down a lot. But that’s not any kind of excuse for it not being competitive. Galax was really reserved as far as the run game tonight. They definitely have some wheels in the back field. I don’t think they want to let their horses out of the stables just yet. #5 was definitely the fastest player on the field but something is telling me they are not wanting to show all their cards this early in the season. Passing game looked really good. Kinda resembles what you see from a Chilhowie team. Balls were well thrown and receivers made nice plays. Can’t wait to see those two go at it come playoff time. Chances are one of the two will be representing the west side of the state again this year.

Galax still has a lot of improving to do, they're not playing to their capabilities as of now. Still way to many mistakes and not good crisp clean play. If they can clean some stuff up they will be pretty tough but they have a lot of work to do.

Just like to throw this in there, like there wasn't enough "throwing." Galax was throwing up 35-0 with less than a minute left in the game, on the second and third group of kids for RR. Plus, whenever the officials pay attention and do their job, they will see that Galax has multiple linemen down field on most pass plays....don't give me that excuse about RPO either.

I don't think anyone ever said they were not throwing enough and the lineman down field is part of the mistakes I was talking about needing to be cleaned up. They're running a new offense with plays being called from the sideline not in a huddle and yes I do believe the lineman are getting confused whether it is a run or pass play.

A couple of things here. First off I am not from Galax so this is just observations.
1. I agree that the last TD from GHS was unneeded as did alot of the Galax fans that I was sitting beside. I am assuming there must be a beef between the coaches
2. With that being said Galax throwing the ball was not to run up the score it was to work on the passing game. Because every time they ran the ball it was a 10 to 15 yard gain!!! So in actuality they was taking the foot off the gas there.
3. That was not against RR 3rd string they did that against unless they changed jerseys at the half. A quick review of Huddle will show you that. It was Galaxs second team second string QB and 4th string tailback the from the second offensive series of the second half on.
4. Galax was called multiple times for lineman down field.
5. It will be scary when Dixon stops playing around and starts running the ball with a purpose. Right now he is just getting multiple kids involved and running different plays. The first string and second string back have seen very little of the rock this year. Matter of fact after watching film the kid that they rode throughout the playoffs last year has touched the ball as of yet.
Still thought the last TD was a bit much though.

Yeah the the last touchdown made me cringe as well. Me and another players dad just looked at each other like WTH. Although I do agree that the throwing during the last quarter and a half was more of them taking their foot of the gas than running it up. As the running game was really clicking. As for the lineman down field- it is no wonder they was confused as all get out. Half the time the coaches was signaling different signals from each other and yelling different formations Lol it was kind of comical.

I had no problem with them passing at the end of the game but once they were in scoring position I would have like to seen them take a knee

As a fan from wythe county I didn’t think that it was intended to be so blown out of per portion. I will assure you the final mins of the game were not against RR 3rd string. That’s hilarious tho to think that. RR doesn’t even have a 3rd string! Do I think scoring in the final min was necessary? No it wasn’t. It was galax allowing the younger guys on the team to get a few more plays in. That’s all. Definitely no beef between the coaches or the kids.

The last touchdown could be score for a variety of reason. As the Old Ball Coach use to say it is the other teams job to stop them for scoring.
I would say that Coach Dixon and his staff do a nice job of getting a lot of each of the players in the program. This is a team that gets better each game. Do they have things that they could be doing better yes and adding the passing game is one of them. They have some players at the WR that could help this team down the road

Totally agree - the passing game is a huge addition to the Arsenal. They have distributed the ball very well. It will be extremely hard to key on one player this year.

Agreed, if they start playing to their capabilities every week they will be hard to guard but they still have a lot of work to do to get there.

1. It may have not been the 3rd string, but I know for a fact it was the 2nd group of kids. So working on the pass game against the 2nd string gets you a lot of results.
2. The starters for Galax were in the game.
3. RR has around 40 kids on the roster...how do you know that they don't have enough kids that play in the secondary for a 3rd string?

You said it yourself, working on the pass game is what they were doing in a real game situation. Once they were down in scoring position they probably should've taken a knee but I don't think coach Dixon is satisfied with what he is seeing on the field and that's why they're working on it until the last second. Just my opinion.

Again I believe by passing they took their foot off the gas. If they had been running it would have been worse. It was the second string QB and 4th string RB for most of the second half. Galax probably did have a couple starters in the game as they only have 20 plus players Lol.

Galax has 27 kids on the roster with roughly a half-dozen of those being out due to injury. Of the 27 kids on the roster, 24 are virtually interchangeable with little to no drop in talent, ability or production.

Who would you suggest they put on the field in lopsided affairs?

1. Ok you say that you know for a fact it was the 2nd string for RR. You also state that going against a second string gets results. True...In this case it was a couple of 2nd sting teams finishing out a ball game, at best.
2. Galax had a couple of starters in the game. As did RR.
3. RR has roughly 40 kids on the roster. And??? You won’t see most of these kids because as a whole the team is very young. Unless RR is up by a lot or down by a lot you won’t see many adjustments in the secondary.
4. Rural Retreat is gonna struggle for the next two years. It’s hard to watch a once respectable program struggling the way that they are. It will get better. I too am a fan just like you. I’m just not sure what the point is? I’m assuming you were at the game. As was I. It sucks to see a much better team come to your house and absolutely take over. It happens, it’s football. I’m sure most teams hate to see Galax come to town. I can assure you that every school in wythe county wishes they didn’t have to face em right now. The worst part is RR still has Chilhowie and GW left on the schedule. Both at home. Not gonna be for the faint of heart if you ask me. And don’t think for one second that GW is gonna feel sorry for the Indians. They have no prob running up the score if they get a chance!!!
