Last year when we made the trip down to Galax, the gas prices were surprisingly low compared to our area, so I for one filled up, even though I might not have needed it at the time. So what are the prices down in the area of Saluda?

Also what will be the dining options along the way or once we get to the town? Fast food would be OK but am open to other suggestions as well.

Hardee's in Saluda very close to the school
A short drive from the school in West Point there is a Pizza Hut, Subway, Hardee's, McDonalds and several Seafood places
A short drive from the school in another direction is Tappahannock (where Essex HS is) McDonalds, Sheetz, Subway, Burger King, Wendy's, Pizza Hut, TGI Fridays (I believe, don't quote me on that) Applebee's, Lowry's seafood, Northern Neck Burger and Im sure I'm missing something out that way

As far as gas I'm not sure as I haven't been in Saluda, Tappahannock or West Point since earlier this fall but generally cheaper than the Richmond area

Gas in this area is generally on the low side. There isn't much for dining in Saluda but depending on which way you come there are many more options in Tappahannock and West Point as noted here. No TGIFriday in Tappahannock though.

There used to be a place in nearby Urbanna called Something Different. It was in a tiny shack, but they had the best pulled pork bbq and roast chicken. I heard the guy that owned it died awhile back, so I don't know if his daughter is keeping it going. If you like fall off the bone smoked meats and homemade ice cream, it's worth the side trip. Prices were ridiculously cheap too. RIP Dan

Something Different moved and is located right beside Virginia Street Cafe in downtown Urbanna. Still great food and there is also a good pizza restaurant in Urbanna on the water

I think I remember someone telling me they had moved. Was that the old Cafe Mojo spot? I did business with both of them. Very interesting people in different ways.
