Gate City vs Glenvar

If the Qb Collier is healthy... it should be a good game. Gate City has a decent passing game with him and he is a very good runner. Gate City has a decent shot at the upset.

What offense does GC run? Glenvar has a balanced attack .Very non predictable. Good running game and the QB is very accurate and doesn't make many mistakes. lines are also very good

Gate City will be similar to Glenvar in style. Gate City for the most part is still Gate City in that they love to run it, control the clock, and play solid defense. The QB they have is special and can run it or throw it. Gate City has improved by a bunch since the season started. With that written, their last 5 games on the schedule were less tough, but they have still improved. I like Glenvar by a score of 27-14ish. Gate City is good enough to pull the upset if they get a few turnovers and can get something going on the ground.

Glenvar's run defense is pretty good. They stopped Giles run game pretty much. I've said before this is one of those teams that is sneaky good. There are no dominating players but they play well together as a team. they don't always score a lot of points against good teams but the defense gets the job done on crucial downs. Looking forward to the playoff with GC.

GC is better than their record indicates and I'm proud of the way the guys fought and clawed their way back into the playoffs after starting out 0-5. GC absolutely runs Collier to death on offense and he plays on both sides of the ball. He's a workhorse and is one of the toughest kids you will see.....but he's asked to do ALOT. McClung choosing not to play this year to focus on basketball put alot of pressure on Collier to make the offense productive and it's an absolute miracle he hasn't missed most of the season due to an injury with the beatings he has taken. GCs defense is pretty good overall.....but can be burned with a good passing attack or a speedy running back.

I think this will be a pretty good ballgame. Glenvar is probably a fundamentally better team and I think it will show at some point in the game. I hope I'm wrong.....but I think Glenvar wins it. I think it's a one possession game and Glenvar comes up with a big stop late in the game to end it.

Glenvar 27
GC 21

His good is Glenvar. Got to see them in preseason and was not impressed. I had heard they were mission g a few players for that.

Is Glenvar capable of playing with the top teams in the west like Appo,Dan River, Union, Richlands or Graham?

Glenvar is much better now then when I seen at scrimmage up at Graham. They had players missing then and it shows. Like Giles they are probably not state contenders this year. I don't think they have the offense to do it and Giles don't have the defense to so it. Just my opinion. But I will say they are much better now then scrimmage.

Only thing that would concern me if i were a Glenvar fan would be the Floyd and EM games. Thought those games would be over by halftime. They seem a bit inconsistent.

Giles has given up 13.5 yards per game this season. That's pretty dang good. Over the last 5 games, Giles is giving up 10 pts per game.

The EM game score is surprising/concerning unless you were there and saw that EM was running out the clock on every down from the beginning of the game to the end of the game....I saw it one other time against EM a few years ago and I guess it has become a tradition to them. They don't play to win but rather not to lose by more than a few touchdowns. against Glenvar. (don't know about other teams they play) I didn't get to the Floyd game but Floyd is much improved and they have played several good teams pretty tough so that isn't that concerning to me.

I dunno about Floyd playing good teams tough, Giles absolutely smashed them with Giles having like six fumbles.

EM done the same thing against Giles. So much that they even had three or four delay of games trying to do it. It was ridiculous. Dint seem to help them much that game. Giles still put up 70

Giles no doubt has a more explosive offense and can do that to a team like EM in a hurray. Glenvar's strength is in the defense. They are not going to blow out teams, especially this year. Over the past two years Glenvar's defense has been better than Giles offense, mud or no mud IMO. I said before two years ago before the playoff that there were some defensive changes and that is a big reason Glenvar has won four straight. Maybe time to acknowledge that???. I've said before that I root for Giles unless they are playing Glenvar but obviously Glenvar has had Giles number four straight games and both seem to be rebuilding this year..

Of Gate City doesn't pull an upset, I'm looking forward to seeing Glenvar come down to Richlands in round 2. I don't think the two have ever played.
Possible match-ups like that is why I LOVE this format. Just like Union/Dan River next week and Graham/Martinsville. Going to be some tremendous games in week 2.

Glenvar beat GC 34-27 Final. Pretty good game. GC had a great long passing game which kept them in the game. #10 to #7 for the most part our defensive backfield did not have answer until the end of the game when it counted most. Great game to GC team and fans. Looks like some very good athletes on that team which bodes well for the future.

Congrats to GC for playing so well after starting the season 0-5. Congrats to Glenvar on the victory. Can't wait to see how your game with Richlands turns out.

I made the 3 he journey to Glenvar yesterday, and from the first Glenvar fan I seen, to the last fan, I have to say Glenvar fans showed me Great Sportsmanship. They was Extremely Friendly, Greeted me with a Hand Shake and a Smile. Great Game last night, GC hung in there, but couldn't pull the upset. Good luck Glenvar in next weeks game, Richlands is a Beast.
