Mac McClung and Zac Ervin are already putting on a show for all the recruiters out to see them in the first real game of the season. McClung has 2 huge slams in the first half and has sunk several 3 pt shots. Ervin has lit it up from the 3 pt line. GC is ahead 42-27 at the half even with GC going cold for several minutes where THS outscored them 11-3.

GC rolls 73-46 over 5A TN High....starters were pulled with 6 mins left in the 4th. McClung finished with 3 dunks and 25 pts. Ervin had a good night of shooting scoring 20 pts. Freshman guard Bradley Dean puts in 16 pts... sinking several 3 pt buckets from nearly half court. The kid has some insane range and good handle in traffic. Senior Collier added 8 in a solid performance as well.

Defense could be better but it will improve. The first 2-3 guys off the bench bring a better brand of defense to the table than the starters actually do. All of those bench players are guards and aren't much of a scoring threat quite yet.....but they definitely play solid defense and they have the potential to be offensive threats as well.

Will know more about this GC team after a few more weeks of basketball. Theyve not really been practicing together yet all that long. When they really start to gel its gonna get interesting. The next 2 seasons are gonna be special for the Blue Devils.

Very true statement about THS not being as good as they were last year. I meant to put their record (3-4) in the last post I made. They wasn't an awful team but Hampton was head and shoulders better no question. Their next game against Daniel Boone will be a much better test. Boone beat an undefeated Sullivan East team last night.

The video the camera guy got for channel 11 wasn't a good angle at all where he was standing under the corner of the goal. Those dunks didn't look nearly as impressive as they did from the side view I had.

I don't disagree with any of this, but TN High's record is now 3-4.

Whats the thoughts about playing Wings Academy from the GC Faithful? I know you got in Knoxville Christian first. And maybe a couple tn. The teams? But that Wings Academy seems to have a good reputation.

GC plays Daniel Boone next Tuesday I think and they will definitely be a tough matchup. Boone just beat a very talented, undefeated Sullivan East team a few days ago. Looking to see how GC improves on defense against them.

Then GC plays Knox Christian 4 days later. Ive not checked into it to see what they have this year....but I would wager they are impressive. I think GC will compete, however I could eat crow on that statement.

GC then turns around and plays Boone again before heading into the Arbys classic. I wouldn't be suprised if GC lost 1 or 2 games out of the next 3 before the Classic starts.....then on the other side of it i wouldn't really be suprised if GC made a clean sweep and wins the next 3. Will definitely be some good experience, especially for the younger guys.

Now Wings Academy....that's a whole different story. Those guys seem to be a finely tuned machine and have some good size. It's their play in the post that will probably cause GC major issues. But I think GC can hold their own for a little while with them....how long is the question though. We will see shortly. Its great experience but ultimately those games don't matter all that much when its comes to their record. Keep grinding and they will be where they need to be in the end.

Just wish GC could land a transfer or foreign exchange post player like everyone else around us seems to.

I've really not looked into the bracket that far. If they both lose or both win in the opening round I would say there's a chance. I think GC would have the best athletes in Mac and Zac on the floor.....but after those two I think Science Hill would have a better team as a whole and the talent drop off behind their best players would be less than GCs best 3-4.

The Dean kid can play. And didn't collier break the record for touchdowns in gate city's long history of scoring tds. I bet he can walk and chew gum with anyone around.?

Both Dean and Collier are really good players. Collier is just a tough athlete in general...can't teach what he has. Kimbler seems to be a solid player as well. I wasn't trying to discredit the GC players such as Collier, Dean, Kimbler, etc...they are very talented. It was more of a compliment to SH and the talent they usually have. Science Hill usually has 8-10 players that are all really solid and they can wear teams down that don't quite have as much depth. It would be interesting to watch that match up if it did in fact manage to formulate.

I honestly wish GC played Dobyns Bennett and Science Hill some in place of Daniel Boone and Tennessee High. Would be nice to see a different sort of rivalry spark up with those teams.
